A transformable toy for use on a playing surface is provided. The transformable toy is formed to includes at least one movable housing element that will move from and expanded to a retracted position when a catch and a latch of the transformable toy are secured and released by an actuator of the transformable toy. The transformable toy is formed to roll about at least one rotation axis thereof, and in some embodiments, is also formed to be driven to spin about a spinning axis thereof. In some embodiments the transformable toy includes separably connectable top and bottom housing portions, and in some embodiments, different bottom housing portions can be exchanged on a particular top housing portion to provide different functionality to the transformable toy. The transformable toy can be driven to spin about the spinning axis by a shaft and flywheel mounted within the transformable toy.

Transformable toy

A transformable toy () which is instantaneously changeable from a flat plate-like shape to the shape of a character figure and which is used to play a game by rotating a roulette wheel () to compete for the score of attack or defense. A transformable toy comprises character-figure constituting members () foldable to a state of a generally flat plate and rotatably connected to each other, elastic members each provided between each of the character-figure constituting members, a roulette wheel () attached to any of the character-figure constituting members, a rotation imparting mechanism for imparting rotation to the roulette wheel, and an engaging means () for maintaining and releasing the folded state of the character-figure constituting members. When the character-figure constituting members are folded against the elastic forces of the elastic members to operate an engaging member, the character-figure constituting members are rotated and caused to protrude. This makes the outline of a character figure protrude and appear and, at the same time, makes the roulette wheel to rotate.
