Provided is a rotation angle detection device, including: a rotation angle sensor; an input circuit configured to output a rotation angle signal and an abnormality signal; a calculation processing unit con tired to calculate a rotation angle calculation value and a rotation speed calculation value based on a rotation angle detection value at a predetermined preset calculation timing; and a rotation angle estimation processing unit configured to calculate a rotation angle estimation value after the calculation timing based on the rotation angle calculation value and the rotation speed calculation value. When the abnormality signal is received, the calculation processing unit calculates the rotation angle calculation value and the rotation speed calculation value based on the rotation angle estimation value, in place of the rotation angle detection value.

An apparatus including an engine control unit which is configured to: start to supply electricity to a starter motor and start measurement of a power supply period; supply electricity to a solenoid when an absolute value of a rpm difference between an rpm of the engine and an estimated rpm of a pinion gear determined from a rpm table based on the measured power supply period becomes smaller than a rpm difference threshold value at which the pinion gear and a ring gear can be engaged with each other; judge that the engine is self-resumed when the engine becomes a state capable of self rotation with only fuel supply in a case where the rpm of the engine is larger than the estimated rpm of the pinion gear; and finish supplying electricity to the starter motor and finish measuring the power supply period, and finish supplying electricity to the solenoid.

An engine automatic-stop/restart system resumes injection of fuel when an engine restart condition is satisfied, and energizes the starter motor when, after injection of the fuel has resumed, starting of the engine is not completed. The system can also control the coupling degree of a forward clutch under certain conditions, and energize a solenoid to engage a starter pinion with a crankshaft ring gear when their relative speeds are close to each other. The system then releases the forward clutch after the pinion and the ring gear have engaged.
