Regarding an optical filter comprising a light-transmitting substrate, a gradient refractive index thin film with a refractive index change in the film thickness direction formed on the substrate and an anti-reflection structure formed on the gradient refractive index thin film, the gradient refractive index thin film is formed so as to have light absorbing characteristic and a refractive index characteristic such that the refractive index change comprising plural changing points with increases and decreases of the refractive index has a tendency to reduce from the side of the substrate toward the side of the anti-reflection structure. The optical filter has excellent environmental resistance and low reflection. The optical filter can be suitably used in an imaging optical system of an optical apparatus or a display of an electronic device.

There is provided an optical filter or an anti-reflection structure with lower reflection in comparison with the conventional ones by comprising a gradient refractive index thin filmwith continuous, periodic refractive index change in the film thickness direction and a fine periodic structurelowering reflection, wherein the refractive index of the gradient refractive index thin filmin its thickness direction on the substrate side changes so as to become close to that of the substrate, while on the fine periodic structurechanges so as to become close to that of the fine periodic structure. The optical filter can be used in an optical device or an electronic device display.

An ND filter that enables relatively easy control of light quantity when used in an iris device and realizes excellent optical performance. The ND filter has a first region having an ND film with a uniform density, a second region having an ND film with a uniform density different from the density of the first region, and a density transition region provided between the first region and the second region. A magnetically soft thin-film is prepared either to be of a composition wherein Fe is used as a principal component, and 0.5 to 20 atomic % of Al, 2 to 25 atomic % of at least one of Zr, Hf, Nb, Ta, Mo and W, 0.05 to 5 atomic % of at lease one of Ag and Cu, 0.5 to 25 atomic % of C and 0.2 to 8 atomic % of O are added as additional elements to the principal component, or to be of a composition wherein 0.1 to 5 atomic % of at least one of rare earth elements such as Ce, Sm and Dy is added further to the above-stated composition. These compositions enable the magnetically soft thin-film to have excellent properties as desired for a magnetic head.

The original is photographed on a film by a camera, and after the film is developed, the film is molded to obtain a plurality of ND filters.

A magnetic head comprises a pair of magnetic core half parts abutted to each other and having magnetic alloy films on both abutted surfaces, a magnetic gap material composed of laminated films formed on the abutted surface of at least one of the pair of magnetic core half parts, and welding glass welding the pair of magnetic core half parts. The laminated films are composed of an SiO.sub.2 film and a Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 film located in sequence from the magnetic core half part side. The laminated films serve to protect the magnetic alloy film from an erosion due to the welding glass. The Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 film ofers excellent wettability by the welding glass, thereby improving the strength of the magnetic head.
