The present invention provides a method for producing 1,2-benzisothiazol-3-one compounds by reacting a 2-(alkylthio)benzonitrile compound with a halogenating agent in the presence of water, the method being characterized in that the reaction proceeds while the halogenating agent and water are gradually and simultaneously added to a reaction system containing the 2-(alkylthio)benzonitrile compound. The invention allows the simple and economical production of highly pure 1,2-benzisothiazol-3-one compounds, which are useful as antimicrobial agents, antifungal agents, etc.

1,2-benzisothiazol-3-one compound production method

A photoacid generator, which shows very high sensitivity in the near ultraviolet range of about 300 to 400 nm, and also can remarkably increase a reaction rate of a photoreactive composition using the same, and a photoreactive composition which can initiate the reaction even by irradiation with near ultraviolet light within a short time and also can obtain a desired reaction product. The cyanine dyes of the invention are well soluble in solvents having a high evaporation rate and stable against light, and thus effective for improving productivity and realizing optical recording media, especially CD-R and DVD-R optical discs, having improved light resistance. The optical recording medium of the invention uses a photo-stabilized cyanine dye which is obtained as a counter ion bonded compound between an anion of the formula (1) and a cation of the formula (2): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.01 and R.sub.02 each are ##STR2## wherein each of R.sub.11 and R.sub.12 is an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl group, ##STR3## wherein m is equal to 3, 4, 5 or 6, ##STR4## or phenyl groups; M is a transition metal; each of Z.sub.1 and Z.sub.2 is a fused benzene ring or fused naphthalene ring; each of R.sub.21 and R.sub.22 is an alkyl group; and n is equal to 0, 1 or 2.

Photo-stabilized cyanine dyes and optical recording media

A novel substituted benzenedithiol metal complex represented by the general formula (1) is provided. The substituted benzenedithiol metal complex is useful as a singlet oxygen quencher and as an optical data recording medium per se. ##STR1## wherein M is a transition metal; A.sup.+ is a quaternary ammonium group; and R is an organic group selected from the group consisting of organic groups represented by the formulae (i), (ii), (iii) and (iv): ##STR2## (wherein R.sup.1 is an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms) ##STR3## (wherein n is 3, 4 or 5), ##STR4## (wherein R.sup.2 is one of a hydrogen atom and a substitutent having 1 to 4 carbon atoms).

A thread rubber for thread wound golf balls having a high impact resilience and high strength, wherein the thread rubber is obtained by vulcanizing a rubber composition which comprises (a) a rubber component selected from the group consisting of natural rubber, a synthetic high-cis-polyisoprene rubber and a mixture thereof, (b) at least one specific diaryl disulfide, (c) a vulcanizing agent, and (d) antioxidant; the compound (b) being present in an amount of 0.5 to 10 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the rubber component (a).

Novel sulfur-containing compound and method for preparing the same

A thread rubber for golf balls, which has good aging resistance and rebound characteristics, and to a thread wound golf ball using the thread rubber are disclosed. The thread rubber for golf balls has a retention of tensile strength after aging 7 days at 70.degree. C. of not less than 70%, a hysteresis loss at a 100 Kg/cm.sup.2 constant stress tensile of not more than 50% and an elongation at a 100 Kg/cm.sup.2 constant stress elongation within the range of 900 to 1400%.

The present invention is directed to a method for producing dichlorophenylthioglycolic acid which comprises reacting monobromodichlorobenzene or trichlorobenzene with a thioglycolate in a ratio of 0.5 to 2.5 mols of the latter to 1 mol of the former in a polar solvent, and to a method for producing dichlorophenylthioglycolic acid comprising further reacting the reaction mixture obtained as above with a monohalogenoacetate. The method of the present invention is very useful industrially, advantageously producing dichlorophenylthioglycolic acid in high yield.

Novel compounds, 4-tert.-butyl-1,2-benzenedithiol and bis(4-tert.-butyl-1,2-dithiophenolate) metal complexes having the general formula of ##STR1## wherein M represents a trivalent transition metal, and A represents a quarternary ammonium are provided. The novel benzenedithiol is produced by reacting 4-tert.-butylbenzenethiol or di(4-tert.-butylphenyl)disulfide with sulfur monochloride in the presence of iodine or a Lewis acid in a solvent, and then reducing the resultant product with a metal selected from the group consisting of zinc, tin, iron and aluminum in the presence of an acid. The novel Cu, Co and Ni complexes are produced by reacting the benzenedithiol with a salt of the corresponding divalent transition metal in the presence of an alkoxide metal or a hydride metal and a quarternary ammonium salt in a solvent under an oxidative atmosphere. The complexes strongly absorb rays in the region of ultraviolet, visible or near infrared, and are useful intermediates for the production of optical information recording media.
