A reactive polymer-supported porous film for separator, that has sufficient adhesiveness between electrodes and separator and can suitably be used to produce a battery having low internal resistance and high rate performance, a method for producing the porous film, a method for producing a battery using the porous film, and an electrode/porous film assembly are disclosed. The reactive polymer-supported porous film for battery separator includes a porous film substrate having supported thereon a reactive polymer obtained by reacting a crosslinkable polymer having at least one reactive group selected from the group consisting of 3-oxetanyl group and epoxy group in the molecule, with an acid anhydride, thereby partially crosslinking the polymer.

A partially crosslinked adhesive-supported porous film for battery separator, which in producing a battery, can effectively produce a battery as an electrode/separator laminate in which an electrode and a separator are temporarily bonded to each other without causing mutual slip movement between the electrode and the separator and which after producing a battery, functions itself as a separator having a small heat shrinkage factor even at high temperatures, and a process of producing a battery using such a partially crosslinked adhesive-supported porous film. The invention provides an adhesive-carrying porous film for use as a battery separator, comprising: a substrate porous film, wherein when a 1 mm diameter penetrating thermomechanical analyzer probe is placed on the film under a 70 g load to measure a thickness while heating the film from room temperature at a rate of 200&#xb0; C./minute to a temperature where the film thickness decreases by half when the probe was initially placed is 200&#xb0; C. or more, a partially crosslinked adhesive carried on the film, the adhesive is prepared by reacting a reactive polymer having a functional group capable of reacting with an isocyanate group with a polyfunctional isocyanate so the reactive polymer is partially crosslinked, a porous film is temporarily bonded to an electrode to provide an electrode/separator laminate, the porous film in a battery functions as a separator which does not melt or break with small heat shrinkage under high temperatures.

An adhesive composition-supporting separator for a battery includes a porous substrate supporting thereon a thermally cross-linkable adhesive composition comprising a multi-functional isocyanate and a reactive polymer having a functional group capable of reacting with an isocyanato group of the multi-functional isocyanate; an electrode/separator laminate is obtained by contact pressing the adhesive composition-supporting separator for a battery against electrodes; and an electrode/separator bonded material having a cross-linked adhesive composition is obtained by heating the electrode/separator laminate to thereby react the multifunctional isocyanate with the reactive polymer for causing cross-linking.

A process for producing an aqueous dispersion-type acrylic polymer is disclosed, which comprises introducing a monomer comprising an alkyl (meth)acrylate as the main component into a polymerization vessel at a time at a monomer concentration of 40% by weight or higher, adding a water-soluble radical polymerization initiator thereto in an amount of from 0.001 to 0.05 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the monomer, and emulsion-polymerizing the monomer substantially at 20.degree. to 60.degree. C. The aqueous dispersion-type acrylic polymer thus obtained satisfies the equation log M&gt;3log S-2, wherein S is a tetrahydrofuran (THF)-soluble content (wt %) of the polymer and M is a weight-average molecular weight (.times.10,000) of a soluble part of the polymer. This polymer is preferably used for a pressure-sensitive adhesive in pressure-sensitive adhesive-covered products.
