POS-terminal device

A foldable portable information terminal includes an upper unit having a display unit on its one side, a lower unit having operation keys on its one side, and a movable connecting mechanism connecting the upper unit and the lower unit allowing the upper unit to be opened, closed, and freely rotated with respect to a longitudinal direction of the lower unit. The displaying mode of the display unit whose direction varies depending on a position of the upper unit is changed depending on a positional relationship of the upper unit and the lower unit.

Foldable portable information terminal

A portable terminal comprises a first bodyon which the first display surfaceis formed, a second bodyon which the second display surfaceis formed, and hinge units which combine the first bodyand the second bodyin a foldable way. Portable terminal

A portable device includes an upper unit, a lower unit having an operation section on an operation surface, and a movable connecting mechanism which connects the upper unit and the lower unit. The movable connecting mechanism includes a rotating hinge including a rotation axis which is securely and rotatably provided to the lower unit and which protrudes from the operation surface in a direction substantially normal to the operation surface, a projection protruding outward from the rotation axis, and a stopping member provided at a location where the projection comes in contact with the stopping member due to rotation of the rotation axis. The stopping member is movable within a predetermined range of movement due to the projection coming in contact with the stopping member.

A folding mobile telephone includes a 2-axis hinge unit. The end portion of the 2-axis hinge unit is constantly exposed outside the mobile telephone. The exposed portion includes input elements. The input elements can be, for example, a pointing device. The pointing device can be operated regardless of the positions of the housings of the communications terminal. The telephone includes position detection elements for detecting the relative positions of the housings. The control unit can control the operation of the terminal based on the relative positions of the housings. The position detection elements includes a magnet and a magnetic sensor. The input elements can be a fingerprint sensor.

Mobile terminal

A portable communication apparatus includes a first unit having at least a display section and a second unit having at least a main operation section, which are coupled by a slide coupling and are freely slidable in a longitudinal direction between a retracted state and an extended state. The first unit and the second unit are urged by an urging member in an extension direction and are releasably locked by a releasable lock mechanism in the retracted state. The locking is released by a predetermined operation. An optical aperture for optical function is provided in one of surfaces of the first and second units that face one another in the retracted state. The optical function section is made operable when the first and second units are positioned in the extended state.

Slide-type portable communication apparatus

A portable communication apparatus includes a main housing having at least a display section and an operation section and a movable housing that is engaged with the main housing slidably in a longitudinal direction between a retracted state and an extended state. The main housing and the movable housing are urged in an extension direction and are releasably locked in the retracted state. A portion of the display section is covered and protected by the movable housing when retracted. An optical aperture for optical function is provided in the main housing and its optical function is made operable when extended.

This invention relates to a folding portable information terminal including an upper unit having a display section on one surface, a lower unit having an operating section on one surface, and a movable joining member which openably and pivotally couples the upper and lower units to each other or openably couples the units to each other at one end of each of the units. This portable information terminal includes an upper unit posture detecting unit for detecting opening-closing and/or pivoting operation of the upper unit, an information recording section which records at least one of predetermined voice information, still image information, and moving image information, and an information recording control unit for setting the information recording section in a mode of recording selected predetermined information when the upper unit posture detecting unit detects a shift of the upper unit to a predetermined posture or a shift of the upper unit from a predetermined posture during voice communication or a standby period.

Folding mobile communications apparatus

An inputting device, an electronic instrument using this inputting device, and an inputting method thereof, in which displacement of an operating section in the direction slanting for the X or the Y direction is detected and the movement of a moving object such as a cursor on a display can be controlled easily and precisely, are provided. The operating section is displaced about in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction for a plane being almost parallel to the surface of a cabinet. In case that orthogonal coordinates having the X axis and the Y axis are set on the plane being almost parallel to the surface of the cabinet, horizontal direction sensors detect the displacement of the operating section in the direction slanting for the X or Y direction, in addition to in the X or Y direction. The cursor moves on the display based on the displacement of the operating section about in the horizontal direction. Information being selected by the cursor on the display is decided by the displacement of the operating section about in the vertical direction.

Inputting device and electronic instrument using this inputting device and inputting method thereof

A personal communication device is folded for compact portability, yet allows viewing of certain essential data such as caller phone number, signal sensitivity, cell boundaries, battery life and messages, without unfolding the phone as well as accessing important function keys. This is made possible by arranging a part of the display section to be in view even when the phone is folded for carrying. When the ear piece of the phone is opened for telephoning, the overall length of the phone is such that the mouth section is opposite to the user's mouth. In the basic design the receiver is located in the movable ear piece so that its length can be kept short. The keyboard section can be located on any surface of the main body of the phone, and an example shows a side mounted keyboard section, thus allowing to operate the phone without unfolding the phone. A liquid crystal touch panel for display section is convenient because it can fulfill both functions of display and keyboard section while retaining the features of a compact size and an ability to operate in the folded condition.
