The present invention solves a problem of a trade-off between increases in paint discharge rate and maintenance of painting quality. A rotary atomizing electrostatic applicator includes a bell cupwhose backis hit by atomization air SA-IN at an angle of 90 degrees or less; and first air holesadapted to discharge the atomization air SA-IN directed at the backof the bell cup, wherein the first air holesare arranged at equal intervals on a circumference centered around a rotation axis of the bell cup, the first air holesare oriented in a direction opposite to a rotation direction of the bell cup; and the atomization air SA-IN discharged through the first air holesis twisted in the direction opposite to the rotation direction of the bell cupat an angle of 50 degrees or more and less than 60 degrees.

Rotary atomizing electrostatic applicator and shaping air ring for the same

An electrostatic coater capable of realizing high-level coating quality is provided. Shaping air SA, discharged from an air port, is directed radially outward. An elevation angle thereof preferably ranges from 10 to 20 degrees. Further, the shaping air SA is a flow in a state of being twisted in a direction opposite to the rotation direction R of a bell cup. The twisting angle about the axis O of the bell cup preferably ranges from 38 to 60 degrees. A liquid thread of paint extends radially outward from the outer peripheral edge of the bell cup, and the paint separated from the tip end thereof becomes a particle. It is preferable that the shaping air SA collides with the paint particle at a point P where the momentum of the paint particle is decreased of the paint particle is decreased.

Electrostatic coater

A rotary atomizing head enables cleaning by decomposing from the atomizing head, and enables internal cleaning without decomposing to individual components when paint is changed to a new one of another color. A structural component has a front wall acting as a hub, side wall extending rearward from an outer circumferential perimeter of the front wall to make a circumferentially continuous plane, legs each having a pawl and a bottom wall. The structural component is detachably mounted in a central concavity of an atomizing head body. A bottom wall of the structural component has formed a spoon-cut recess. The central concavity has an inclined circumferential wall, and the side wall of the structural component has an inclined outer circumferential surface complementary with the circumferential wall of the atomizing head body to get in substantial contact with the circumferential wall throughout the entire area of the outer circumferential wall.

The rotary atomizing painting device is provided with a bell cup () disposed at the most front part in the paint spray direction X and axially supported by a rotating shaft () and a shaping air ring () disposed rearward of this bell cup () in the paint spray direction and in which a plurality of discharge openings () is formed on the periphery centered on the rotating shaft (). The plurality of discharge openings () is formed such that the axial direction of the plurality of discharge openings () is in a direction and a slant to the rotating shaft (). A rotary atomizing head, which has an inner peripheral surfacewhose diameter increases from a bottomof the inner peripheral surface toward a tip thereof, and atomizes and releases paint by applying a centrifugal force generated by rotation to the paint supplied to the bottom of the inner peripheral surface, includes a paint supply nozzlefor supplying the paint and a cleaning solution to the bottom of the inner peripheral surface, and the paint supply nozzle has a nozzle holefor discharging the paint and the cleaning solution from a rotation center O portion of the rotary atomizing head in a direction substantially perpendicular to a rotation axis of the rotary atomizing head. The rotary atomizing headalso includes a dam portionthat is provided in an intermediate portion between the bottom and the tip of the inner peripheral surface and dams the paint and the cleaning solution supplied from the paint supply nozzle to the bottom and flow along the inner peripheral surface toward the tip.

Rotary atomizing head, rotary atomization coating apparatus, and rotary atomization coating method

An annular dam portion is formed along a circumference of an inner peripheral face of a rotary atomizer head and has a plurality of paint supply holes formed along the circumferential direction at the boundary between the annular dam portion and the inner peripheral face. The annular dam portion is disposed between the bottom of the inner peripheral face and the tip of the inner peripheral face. The dam portion is formed such that a substantially constant distance separates the inner peripheral face from the dam portion.

Rotary atomizer head, rotary atomizer painting device, rotary atomization painting method

A rotary electrostatic atomizer uses shaping air and pattern control air. Shaping airflow is supplied from shaping air holes aligned along outer one of concentric circles that are concentric with the rotation axis of the bell cup and located behind the front end of the bell cup. Pattern control airflow is supplied from pattern control air holes aligned along inner one of the concentric circles. Both the shaping air flow and the pattern control airflow are expelled in circumferentially twisted directions substantially with an equal twist angle opposite from the rotating direction of the bell cup. The shaping airflow passes a circular line near to and radially outwardly apart from the outer perimeter of the bell cup. The pattern control airflow intersects the shaping airflow from radially inside at the position near to and radially outwardly apart from the outer perimeter of the bell cup. Thereby, the pattern control airflow gives the shaping airflow a radially outward force to enhance the centrifugal force of the shaping air and enlarge the coating pattern regulated by the shaping airflow.

Rotary atomizer and coating pattern control method

Provided is an electrostatic coating apparatus capable of insulating an electric motor electrically from a member, to which an electrostatic high voltage is applied, and reducing the size and weight of the electrostatic coating apparatus. This electrostatic coating apparatus comprises a rotary atomizing head, to which high voltage is electrostatically applied, an electrostatically grounded AC servomotor, and a spindle and a fixed insulating member for insulating the AC servomotor electrically from the rotary atomizing head and a speed-increasing device to be set at the same potential as that of the former. The spindle and the fixed insulating member have insulation distance enlarging portions and of the mode, in which the creepage insulation distances from the speed-increasing device to the AC servomotor are enlarged.

Electrostatic atomizer and its cleaning method

Intended is to enable an electrostatic coating apparatus including a plurality of needle electrodes formed in an annular shape and having a blot preventing function, to prevent the generation of a spark discharge reliably, in case an arbitrary needle electrode approaches an earth element, and to keep the intensity of a generated electrostatic field properly. A coating gun comprises a blot preventing device including a ring-shaped electrode unit having a plurality of needle electrodes protruding radially at a substantially equal spacing radially outward from an annular base member, and a high-voltage generator for applying a high voltage to the electrode unit. The needle electrodes are connected in parallel with the high-voltage generator through individual resistors, block-by-block resistors and built-in resistors.

Stain preventing cover for coating machine

An arm of a coating robot is used to prevent external leakage of a high voltage. A tank is installed on a robotic arm and contains water as an actuating liquid. The water is supplied to a paint cartridge by a pump controlled by a controller. The water sent from the pump under pressure is supplied to the paint cartridge by a conduit tube. A high voltage generator and a bleeder resistor are combined with the tank such that a high voltage generated by the high voltage generator is supplied to the electrostatic paint applicator via the water. For replenishment of water to the tank is attained by relatively connecting a nozzle in communication with a water source to a main pipe. While the high voltage generator generates a high voltage, the nozzle and the main pipe are kept disconnected to maintain electrical insulation between the nozzle and the main pipe.

A rotary atomizer () has a rotary atomizing head () driven by an air motor () at a rotational speed of 4,000&#x2dc;5,000 rpm, for example. A coating material is supplied to a central portion of the rotary atomizing head () through a paint supply pipe (). The atomizer () further includes a supersonic horn () having a vibration plane () located adjacent to the outer circumferential perimeter of the rotary atomizing head (). The vibration plane () is an inclined plane gradually increasing its diameter forward. The coating material immediately after spattered from the outer circumferential perimeter of the rotary atomizing head () is exposed to supersonic vibration from the vibration plane (), and it is atomized by the supersonic vibration to particles of a uniform grain size. At the same time, the atomized coating material is driven forward.
