A stator and a rotor suitable for use in an electric motor or generator. The stator comprises a plurality of stator cons and a support for holding the coils around a rotor of the motor. A cylindrical sleeve is mounted radially inwardly on the support to form a barrier in use between cooling fluid passing over the coils and a rotor located within the stator. The rotor comprises a hub, a plurality of rotor segments, and a plurality of permanent magnets. The segments are arranged around the hub in a ring, with the permanent magnets disposed between the segments. A radially outwardly facing exposed surface of each magnet is spaced radially inwardly from an outer cylindrical profile defined by the segments.

Stator for an electric motor and cooling thereof

A valve timing control device includes a rotatable shaft, a housing including a timing wheel axially immovable but angularly movable with respect to the timing wheel, a piston disposed coaxially with the rotatable shaft and the timing wheel, a hydraulic chamber for applying a hydraulic pressure to move the piston axially, a servovalve disposed between the hydraulic pressure chamber and hydraulic pressure supply and release passages and comprising a sleeve and a spool, an actuator for axially moving the spool, and a phase adjusting mechanism operatively coupling the piston, the housing, and the rotatable shaft for varying angular relationship between the timing wheel and the rotatable shaft in response to axial movement of the piston. The actuator may be a hydraulic actuator or an electric actuator. The phase adjusting mechanism may comprise roller pins mounted on the piston and rollingly fitted in a guide groove defined in the rotatable shaft and a guide slot defined in the housing, or meshing helical teeth on the piston, the housing, and the rotatable shaft.

Valve timing control device for use in internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine for a vehicle has an exhaust gas recirculation system for returning exhaust gases to the engine intake passage. The carburetion system for the engine includes a fuel enrichment valve. A control suction air line from the intake passage operates a regulating valve which controls the exhaust gas recirculation valve as well as the fuel enrichment valve. The flow resistance through the control suction air line is controlled by a prescribed control factor, which factor may depend upon the engine temperature alone or supplemented by engine speed, engine load (suction pressure), or atmospheric pressure.

Exhaust gas recirculation control system for vehicle engines

A method and apparatus for exhaust gas recirculation for an internal combustion engine in which exhaust gas is recirculated through a recirculation passage connecting the exhaust passage of the engine and the intake passage of the engine. A vacuum-response type recirculation control valve is disposed in the exhaust gas recirculation passage to operate in response to vacuum detected at a vacuum detection port located in the intake passage in the vicinity of a throttle valve. A vacuum tank is connected through a solenoid-actuated change-over valve to the vacuum passage interconnecting the vacuum detecting port and the recirculation control valve, the vacuum tank being in communication with the intake passage downstream from the throttle valve through a check valve. A differential pressure switch is connected between the solenoid-actuated change-over valve and a power source and is adapted to be placed in 'on' state when the vacuum detected at the vacuum detecting port is lower than the vacuum in the vacuum tank to operate the change-over valve to connect the vacuum tank to the vacuum passage.

Exhaust gas recirculation control device for an internal combustion

A control valve in an exhaust gas recirculation line for an engine is operated by vacuum pressure from a regulating valve. The regulating valve has a vacuum chamber positioned between two orifices mounted in a line leading to atmospheric air intake. An air valve located downstream from said regulating valve and orifices controls vacuum pressure from a control suction air line leading to the engine intake passage. The return rate of exhaust gas to the engine is proportional to the flow rate of suction air supplied to the engine, thereby providing a desired exhaust gas return ratio.

Exhaust gas recirculation control system

An internal combustion engine for a vehicle has an exhaust gas recirculation system for returning exhaust gases to the engine intake passage. The carburetion system for the engine includes a fuel enrichment valve. Sensors for high vehicle speed and low vehicle speed control the fuel enrichment valve and a valve in the recirculation passage so that the fuel enrichment valve and the exhaust gas recirculation valve are controlled in a manner so that exhaust gas recirculation and fuel enrichment are increased in a lower vehicle speed range, and decreased in a higher vehicle speed range.

Suction mixture control system for vehicle engines

An internal combustion engine for a vehicle has an exhaust gas recirculating system for returning exhaust gases to the engine intake passage. The carburetion system for the engine includes a fuel enrichment valve. Sensors for various vehicle speeds and engine operating conditions operate control valves whose actions are modified by a sensor for atmospheric pressure, to control the fuel enrichment valve and a valve in the recirculation passage so that fuel enrichment and exhaust gas recirculation are both reduced when the vehicle travels at a high elevation having low atmospheric pressure.

An exhaust gas recirculation control system employs a flow rate valve in the recirculation line. The valve is operated by suction pressure obtained from two suction ports in the engine intake passage. Suction lines from those ports contain air inlet valves which dilute the suction pressure with atmospheric air, depending upon engine operating conditions. A fuel supply increasing valve is connected to a venturi in the engine intake passage and suction operated control means control operation of that valve. The result is an improved acceleration characteristic for the engine under load without substantial increase in discharge of pollutants into the atmosphere.

Exhaust gas recirculation control system for engines

An exhaust manifold for a multi-cylinder engine employs three concentric exhaust reaction chambers. Exhaust inlet pipes convey hot exhaust gases from the exhaust ports of the engine directly into the innermost reaction chamber. The concentric reaction chambers extend substantially at right angles to the exhaust inlet pipes which are parallel. Concentric tubes encircle the exhaust inlet pipes and each is connected to one of the concentric exhaust chambers. The flared portions of the exhaust inlet pipes engage in surface contact with the correspondingly flared portions of the tubes. End members having concentric shoulders engage cylindrical shells which define the exhaust reaction chambers. Bolted spacers are positioned substantially midway of the length of the shells and space them in concentric fashion.
