The present disclosure provides a nucleic-acid extraction method for carrying out the following procedures in the same cell, the procedures including: performing an ultrasonic process on a sample containing a nucleic acid; adsorbing substances contained in the sample by making use of an adsorption carrier; and condensing the nucleic acid by damming the nucleic acid moving in an electrophoresis phenomenon. In accordance with the nucleic-acid extraction method, it is possible to carry out an ultrasonic process, an adsorption process and an electrophoresis process in the same cell. Thus, it is possible to eliminate an operation to transfer the sample from one cell to another one for each of the processes.

The present disclosure relates to a method and apparatus for separating nucleic acids. A carrier may include a porous microbead having cation-exchangeable groups attached to the surface of the porous microbead. Capturing chains modified with positively charged functional groups and having a base sequence complementary to a target nucleic acid chain sequence are immobilized on to the surface of the porous microbead. In various embodiments, capturing chains are immobilized on to the surface of the porous microbead through an ion exchange bond or a covalent bond with the cation-exchangeable groups of the porous microbead. In some cases, the porous microbead has a number of through pores adapted to permit a solution to pass rapidly through the through pores and a number of diffusive pores adapted to permit a solute of the solution to diffuse into the diffusive pores. A solution having a target nucleic acid chain corresponding to the target nucleic acid chain sequence of the capturing chains may be passed through a channel that is packed with porous microbeads so as to result in hybridization of the capturing chain and the target nucleic acid chain. The porous microbeads may be structured such that the pressure in the channel upon passing of the solution through the channel does not build significantly.

An optical state modulation unit is provided to apply an optical intensity modulation in temporal domain on a display image generated from an inputted image signal for different gray scale values such that the optical intensity modulation performed at least one of the gray scale values of the display image falls into a region at which the flicker is perceptible to human vision when a recorded image obtained by image-capturing the display image is viewed, while remaining imperceptible when the display image is directly viewed. An optical intensity modulation having a periodicity in the temporal domain is applied on an optical state of an original display image, being displayed on a projection screen or a display screen, that takes into account a human temporal frequency contrast sensitivity characteristics, so that an optical state variation that is independent of the original display image would appear in an image recorded by capturing the display image using an image capturing apparatus, while the optical state variation in the display image being directly viewed remains imperceptible.

An optical state modulation method is provided. The method comprises steps of periodically modulating luminance of a visible light in temporal domain so as to generate an optical state variation on a recorded image that is obtained by image-capturing of a displayed image, the visible light being superposed on an original display image to produce the displayed image, the optical state variation being independent of an original display image and generating no hampering effect when the displayed image is directly watched.
