A vehicle lamp has a red bulb which is made by coating its exterior surface with a red paint including iron oxide as a red pigment. A mean particle size of the iron oxide is controlled to a range of approximately 10 to 100 nm, and a PWC concentration of the iron oxide is controlled to a range of approximately 60 to 90%. As a result, a red marker lamp can have an appropriate luminous flux (120&#xb1;20% lm) and desirable chromaticity (y&#x3c;0.335 and z&#x3c;0.008) and satisfactory heat resistance (350&#xb0; C. or higher).

Vehicle lamp

A vehicle lamp formed by integrally molding a lens and a lamp body, which can be practically applied is described. A vehicle lamp 1 is formed by integrally molding a lens 2 and a lamp body 3 using a light permeable resin material. A reflection layer 10 is coated on the outer surface 301 of the lamp body 3 and reflects light P0 emitted from a light source 15 located within the lamp body 3 forward to the front of the lamp body.

Method for forming coating film and vehicle lamp device formed by the method

A vehicle lamp is fitted with a reflective coated reflector which is capable of obtaining a greater center luminous intensity than conventional reflective coated reflectors. The vehicle lamp includes a light source, a reflector for reflecting light from the light source, and a front lens disposed in front of the light source. The reflective surface of the reflector is formed with a luminance reflective coating film containing aluminum flakes that are arranged so as to have a center luminous intensity of 8,000 cd or greater. An aluminum flake layer with the aluminum flakes piled up therein is formed in the surface layer portion of the luminance reflective coating film, and the aluminum flake layer forms a reflective surface for reflecting light. The aluminum flakes mixed in the luminance reflective coating film are thinner (0.01-0.06 &mgr;m thick) than the aluminum flakes (0.1 &mgr;m or greater in thickness) mixed in a conventional reflective coating film. The aluminum flake layer is uniformly extended along the surface of the reflective coating film and the surface of the luminous intensity layer is smooth, so that the specular reflectance provides for a center luminous intensity of 8,000-13,000 cd.

The UV rays are absorbed by the UV absorber contained in each coating film, to reduce the amount of UV rays that reach the interface between the plate layer,and the coating film,thus, peeling of the coating films can be effectively prevented. The lower coating film,reflects the external rays and provides a glossy appearance, thus contributing to the improvement in the appearance as a metallic coating.
