The present invention provides an image-recording/pixel-forming coloring composition containing a phthalocyanine type colorant having at least one group selected from alkyl and alkyloxy groups (alkylphthalocyanine type colorant). According to the present invention, there can also be provided a coloring composition containing a phthalocyanine type colorant capable of exhibiting excellent properties when used as an image-recording coloring composition or pixel-forming coloring composition, production processes of the phthalocyanine type colorants, a coloring method, and the like.

Coloring composition, method for production thereof, and coloring method

This invention relates to a dispersant for an organic pigment comprising a compound represented by the below-described formula (1) or (2), and also to its use. According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a dispersant or the like, which can afford a coating formulation for a color filter. The coating formulation is prevented from an increase in viscosity and a reduction in storage stability even when the concentration of a pigment is high, and can fabricate the color filter with excellent transparency and color quality. 

Dispersing agent for organic pigment and use thereof

This present invention can provide a novel pigment useful in color image displays to form blue pixels capable of providing high-level brightness and saturation, especially a finely-divided pigment which has bright hue and is excellent in pigment physical properties such as light fastness, solvent resistance and heat resistance, and a process for producing the same, a pigment dispersion making use of the pigment, and an ink for a color filters. The novel pigment is produced by forming into a pigment a subphthalocyanine represented by the following formula (1): wherein X is a halogen atom, presents diffraction peaks at diffraction angles (2&#x3b8;) 7.0&#xb0;, 12.3&#xb0;, 20.4&#xb0; and 23.4&#xb0; in x-ray diffraction, and has an average particle size of 120 to 20 nm.

Pixel-forming colorant compositions and their use

An aqueous pigment dispersion is produced by ultrafinely dispersing a pigment dispersion mixture, which has been obtained by mixing at least a pigment and a dispersant in an aqueous medium, with microbeads having diameters of not smaller than 0.02 mm but smaller than 0.2 mm. A color composition for a color filter is produced by dispersing a mixture of a pigment, a dispersant, a resin varnish and a solvent with the microbeads in a mill.

A pigment dispersant contains the following component (a) alone or the following components (a) and (b) in combination: Component (a): a composite pigment formed of a diketopyrrolopyrrole pigment having a sulfonic group and another diketopyrrolopyrrole pigment having no sulfonic group, wherein the number of sulfonic group per molecule of the diketopyrrolopyrrole pigments in the composite pigment is from 0.05 to 0.5; and Component (b): a pigment other than the component (a), wherein the pigment has a sulfonic group or its metal salt, ammonium salt or amine salt. Also disclosed are a colored composition for color filters, a process for the fabrication of a color filter, the color filter fabricated by the process, an image display device including the color filter, and an information communication equipment including the image display device. These colored composition, process, color filter, image display device and information communication equipment all make either direct or indirect use of the pigment dispersant.

Pigment dispersants and their use

Color filters can each be fabricated by printing a pixel pattern for the color filter on a flexible plastic film by a central impression cylinder press. The pixel pattern is formed of pixels of three primary colors consisting of red, green and blue or pixels of three primary colors consisting of yellow, magenta and cyan. Also disclosed are inks, color filters, and image displays using the color filters.

A water-based pigment ink contains a pigment, a hydrophilic dispersant, an aqueous medium, an alkali agent for solubilizing the hydrophilic dispersant in the aqueous medium, and a hydrophilic compound having at least one structural unit of 'hydrophobic molecular chain-hydrophilic molecular chain-hydrophobic molecular chain' in a structure thereof. The water-based pigment ink is suited especially as an ink for ink-jet printers.

Polymer-bonded functional agents are each obtained by reacting a functional agent containing reactive groups with a polymer containing groups reactive with the reactive groups of the functional agent. The functional agent comprises at least one functional agent selected from the group consisting of antioxidants, ultraviolet absorbers, light stabilizers, infrared absorbers and antistatic agents. Use of these polymer-bonded functional agents can provide articles with improved functions.

Colored fine particulate resins can each be produced by bringing a colored resin, which comprises a thermally fusible resin and a colorant evenly distributed in the thermally fusible resin, into a molten state; forming the colored resin, which is in the molten state, into droplet-shaped fine particles in a non-dissolving medium which does not dissolve the colored resin; and then cooling and solidifying the droplet-shaped fine particles. The colored fine particulate resins are useful in image recording materials, printing materials and paints. Articles can be colored with the image recording materials, printing materials or paints.

A solidifying material for a cell electrolyte solution is a block copolymer, which comprises, as segments A, a polymer non-compatible with the cell electrolyte solution and, as segments B, a polymer compatible with the cell electrolyte solution. The solidifying material absorbs and solidifies the cell electrolyte solution. A smallest unit of the block copolymer is A-B-A. A high-molecular gelling agent for the electrolyte is produced by saponifying the precursor with a saponifying agent selected from the group consisting of acids and alkalis while using a reaction medium selected from the group consisting of water and hydrophobic organic solvents.
