A composite cooling film comprises an ultraviolet-reflective multilayer optical film and a reflective microporous layer secured thereto. The ultraviolet-reflective multilayer optical film is at least 50 percent reflective of ultraviolet radiation over a majority of the wavelength range of at least 340 but less than 400 nanometers. The reflective microporous layer has a continuous phase comprising a nonfluorinated organic polymer and is diffusely reflective of solar radiation over a majority the wavelength range of 400 to 2500 nanometers, inclusive. The composite cooling film has an average absorbance over the wavelength range of 8 to 13 microns of at least 0.85. An article comprising the composite cooling film adhered to a substrate is also disclosed.

Composite cooling film and article including the same

Provided are acoustic articles, and related methods, that include a porous layer and heterogeneous filler received in the porous layer. The heterogeneous filler can include clay, diatomaceous earth, graphite, glass bubbles, polymeric filler, non-layered silicate, plant-based filler, or a combination thereof, and can have a median particle size of from 1 micrometer to 1000 micrometers and a specific surface area of from 0.1 m/g to 800 m/g. The acoustic article can have an overall flow resistance of from 100 MKS Rayls to 8000 MKS Rayls. The acoustic articles can serve as acoustic absorbers, vibration dampers, and/or acoustic and thermal insulators.

A composite cooling film () comprises an antisoiling layer () secured to a first major surface of a reflective microporous layer (). The reflective microporous layer () comprises a first fluoropolymer and is diffusely reflective of electromagnetic radiation over a majority of wavelengths in the range of 400 to 2500 nanometers. The antisoiling layer () has an outwardly facing antisoiling surface () opposite the micro-voided polymer film. An article () comprising the composite cooling film () secured to a substrate () is also disclosed.

A porous membrane includes a triblock copolymer of the formula ABC. B is a hydrogenated vinyl aromatic block present in a range from 30 to 90 weight percent, based on the total weight of the copolymer and has a Tof &#x2265;110&#xb0; C. C is a rubbery block present in a range from 10 to 70 weight percent, based on the total weight of the copolymer and has a T&#x2264;25&#xb0; C. A is substantially incompatible with both the B and C blocks and is derived from ring-opening polymerization. B+C is present in a range from 70 to 95 weight percent, based on the total weight of the copolymer.

Porous membranes including triblock copolymers

The present disclosure provides a porous membrane made of pentablock copolymer. The porous membrane includes an ABCBA block copolymer and has a number of pores. The A block is immiscible with each of the B block and the C block, the B block has a glass transition temperature (T) of 90 degrees Celsius or greater, and the C block has a Tof 25 degrees Celsius or less. The A block comprises a poly(alkylene oxide), a substituted epoxide, a polylactam, or a substituted carbonate; B block comprises a vinyl aromatic monomer or a polyalkylmethacrylate and C block comprises a polyacrylate, a polysiloxane or a polyisoprene. A method of making a porous membrane is also provided. The method includes forming a film or a hollow fiber from a solution including a solvent and solids containing an ABCBA block copolymer. The method further includes removing at least a portion of the solvent from the film or the hollow fiber and contacting the film or the hollow fiber with a nonsolvent.

Described is a triblock copolymer of the formula ABC wherein B is a hydrogenated vinyl aromatic block having a Tof &#x2265;110&#xb0; C. and comprising 30-90 wt. % of the copolymer; C is a rubbery block having a T&#x2264;25&#xb0; C. and comprising 10-70 wt. % of the copolymer; and A is an block derived from ring-opening polymerization, substantially incompatible with both B and C blocks.

Triblock copolymers

Asymmetric articles are described including a porous substrate with two opposing major surfaces and a porous structure extending between the surfaces, and a polymeric coating on one of the major surfaces and extending into the porous structure to a depth of the porous structure. Methods for making an asymmetric composite article are also provided, including providing a porous substrate, treating the porous substrate with a plasma treatment or a corona treatment from one major surface to a depth of the porous structure between the two major surfaces. The method further includes applying a coating solution to the treated porous substrate and drying the coating solution to form a composite asymmetric composite article having a polymeric coating on one major surface and extending into the porous structure to the depth of the treated porous structure.

Novel pentablock polymers of the formula ABCBA are provided wherein C is a glassy aromatic block having a Tg of &#x3e;70&#xb0; C.; B is a rubber block having a Tg&#x3c;25&#xb0; C.; and A is a block incompatible with the B and C blocks and derived from ring-opening polymerization of cyclic monomers.

Pentablock copolymers

Articles are described including a first microfiltration membrane layer having a first major surface and a second major surface disposed opposite the first major surface, and a first silica layer directly attached to the first major surface of the first microfiltration membrane layer. The first silica layer includes a polymeric binder and acid-sintered interconnected silica nanoparticles arranged to form a continuous three-dimensional porous network. A method of making an article is also described, including providing a first microfiltration membrane layer having a first major surface and a second major surface disposed opposite the first major surface, and forming a first silica layer on the first major surface.
