An overbed table is provided for use with a bed. The bed includes a first connector that mates with a second connector of the overbed table. When the first and second connectors mate, an electrical connection is established for an electrical device supported by the overbed table.

A surgical instrument for the dissection of bone and other tissue includes a spindle, a dissection tool and a male member carried by the spindle. The spindle includes a cavity. The dissection tool is releasably received in the cavity. The dissection tool extends along an axis and includes a first end and a second end with the first end having a cutting element and a second end having a generally cylindrical cross-section and a centrally located aperture partially extending along the axis. The male member is carried by the spindle and extends into the aperture of the dissection tool.

An overbed table configured to support a table section above a patient support surface, such as a hospital bed. The overbed table includes a frame having a base and a substantially vertical support column for supporting the table section. In one illustrative embodiment, a display device is supported by the overbed table. In a further illustrative embodiment, a camera is supported by the overbed table.

A surgical instrument for the dissection of bone and other tissue includes a spindle, a dissection tool and a male member carried by the spindle. The spindle includes a cavity. The dissection tool is releasably received in the cavity. The dissection tool extends along an axis and includes a first end and a second end with the first end having a cutting element and a second end having a generally cylindrical cross-section and a centrally located aperture partially extending along the axis. The male member is carried by the spindle and extends into the aperture of the dissection tool. The cavity may define a drive portion and a tool receiving aperture. One or more alignment projections may extend from the drive portion into the tool receiving aperture.

An overbed table includes a table portion and a telescoping support column. The column includes an outer column portion and an inner column portion. The inner and outer column portions have surfaces adjacent each other. A bearing cage is oriented between the adjacent surfaces of the inner and outer column portions. Bearings are captured between the surfaces and the bearing cage. The bearings engage the surfaces to promote projection of the inner column portion from, and retraction of the inner column portion into, the outer column portion. The overbed table also includes a first table section supported by the column for movement horizontally with respect to the column, and a second table section coupled to the first table section and the column such that movement of the second table section results in sliding movement of the first table section.
