An arginine-rich polypeptide composition includes an arginine-rich polypeptide and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Generally, the arginine-rich polypeptide has at least nine arginine residues that represent at least 10% of the amino acid residues in the polypeptide. The arginine-rich polypeptide may be used in a method of inhibiting a human papilloma virus (HPV) from binding to a cell, a method of inhibiting intracellular processing of human papilloma virus (HPV) by a cell, or a method of treating a subject having, or at risk of having, a human papilloma virus (HPV) infection.

Arginine-rich polypeptide compositions and methods of using same

Provided is an animal model system for the study of papillomaviruses, especially anogenital papillomaviruses, especially those causing anogenital and/or head and neck cancers. The Rhesus papillomavirus (especially RhPV1) is a useful model for human papillomaviruses which cause anogenital infections and cancers of the anogenital region and/or the head, neck and respiratory system.

RhPV as a model for HPV-induced cancers

Expression vectors that include reporter genes and an operable regulatory region containing a promoter and E2 binding sites of papillomavirus (PV), are used to detect and/or titer papillomavirus by quantitative or qualitative methods.
