A nozzle plate for a fluid-ejection device, comprising: a first substrate made of semiconductor material, having a first side and a second side; a structural layer extending on the first side of the first substrate, the structural layer having a first side and a second side, the second side of the structural layer facing the first side of the first substrate; at least one first through hole, having an inner surface, extending through the structural layer, the first through hole having an inlet section corresponding to the first side of the structural layer and an outlet section corresponding to the second side of the structural layer; a narrowing element adjacent to the surface of the first through hole, and including a tapered portion such that the inlet section of the first through hole has an area larger than a respective area of the outlet section of the first through hole.

Process for manufacturing a nozzle plate

A microreactor for performing chemical reactions, includes a body, a first chamber and a second chamber, both formed in the body. Interconnections are provided for fluidly coupling the first chamber and the second chamber through the body. The microreactor also includes a venting passage formed in the body and having a venting outlet in the second chamber and at least one venting inlet in the first chamber, at a location where formation of bubbles is expected upon introduction of a liquid in the first chamber.

Disclosed herein is a microfluidic jetting device having a piezoelectric member positioned above a displaceable membrane. A voltage is applied across the piezoelectric member causing deformation of the piezoelectric member. The deformation of the piezoelectric member results in a displacement of the membrane, which is formed above a cavity. Displacement of the membrane creates pressure to jet or eject liquid from the cavity and suction liquid into the cavity through ports or apertures formed in the in membrane.

Microfluidic jetting device with piezoelectric actuator and method for making the same

Disclosed herein is a microfluidic pumping device having a piezoelectric member positioned above a displaceable membrane. A voltage is applied across the piezoelectric member causing the piezoelectric member to displace the membrane. Displacement of the membrane increases and decreases pressure in a cavity that is below the membrane. The increases and decreases in pressure actuate cantilevered check valve members to facilitate unidirectional liquid flow through the pumping device.

Piezoelectric microfluidic pumping device and method for using the same

A display system for a portable device is switchable by electrical addressing. The display system can absorb ambient light and reflect at least a portion of the absorbed light to render an image on a surface of the display. The display includes a plurality of pixel electrodes. Each of the plurality of pixel electrodes includes linkers with acceptor molecules and donor molecules that form groups having respective color properties. In an off-state, a respective pixel is configured to reflect white light. In an on-state, a respective pixel is configured to reflect light according to the molecular grouping of the acceptor-donor group.

Switchable display system

A method of fabricating a wafer-size photovoltaic cell module includes defining an integrated cellular structure of a light converting monolateral or bilateral junction diode in an epitaxially grown detachable layer including a first deposited metal current collecting terminal of the diode. The method also includes laminating onto the surface of the processed epitaxially grown detachable layer a film of an optical grade plastic material resistant to hydrofluoric acid solutions. The method further includes immersing the wafer in a hydrofluoric acid solution causing detachment of the epitaxially grown silicon layer laminated with the film, and polishing the surface of separation of the detached epitaxially grown layer and forming a second metal current collecting terminal of the diode by masked deposition of a metal at a temperature tolerable by the film.

Method of fabrication of plastic film supported single crystal silicon photovoltaic cell structure

A biological molecule detection device that includes a detection array, arranged on a body and having one or more probes for detecting corresponding electrically charged molecules, wherein a time varying electric field generating circuit is provided for generating at least one time varying electric field around the detection array within the detection region. The time varying electric field moves the electrical charged molecules repeatedly back and forth over the probes, thus providing increased opportunities for interaction and speeding the detection process.

Detection device having increased detection rate, and method for quick detection of biological molecules

A microfluidic device includes a microfluidic circuit, having an axis, and an electric field generator, arranged to establish an electric field (E) within at least a section of the microfluidic circuit, the electric field (E) being oriented transversally to the axis. The electric field is used to locally concentrate charged molecules, thus increasing the reaction rate.

Microfluidic device and method of locally concentrating electrically charged substances in a microfluidic device

A microfuel cell includes a substrate and a plurality of spaced-apart PEM dividers extending outwardly to define anodic and cathodic microfluidic channels. An anodic catalyst/electrode lines at least a portion of the anodic microfluidic channels, and a cathodic catalyst/electrode lines at least a portion of the cathodic microfluidic channels. Each anodic and cathodic catalyst/electrode may extend beneath an adjacent portion of a PEM divider in some embodiments. Alternately, the microfuel cell may include a plurality of stacked substrates, in which a first substrate has first microfluidic fuel cell reactant channels. A PEM layer may be adjacent the first surface of the first substrate, an anodic catalyst/electrode layer may be adjacent one side of the PEM layer, and a cathodic catalyst/electrode layer may be adjacent an opposite side of the PEM layer. An adhesive layer may secure the first substrate to an adjacent substrate defining at least a second microfluidic fuel cell reactant channel.
