A method of converting a liquid hydrocarbon stream to lower boiling point hydrocarbons may include converting the liquid hydrocarbon stream to an aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream, and subjecting the aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream to reaction conditions. Reaction conditions may include a temperature from 25° C. to 1,000° C. and a pressure from 1 bar to 15 bar. The method may further include forming the lower boiling point hydrocarbons in the aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream and separating the lower boiling point hydrocarbons from the aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream. The lower boiling point hydrocarbons may comprise at least C—Colefins.

A method of converting a liquid hydrocarbon stream to lower boiling point hydrocarbons includes converting the liquid hydrocarbon stream to an aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream, introducing a charge to the aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream to produce a charged aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream including positively charged aerosolized hydrocarbon particles or negatively charged aerosolized hydrocarbon particles, contacting the aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream with an aerosolized reaction catalyst, subjecting the aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream to reaction conditions, thereby forming the lower boiling point hydrocarbons, and separating the lower boiling point hydrocarbons from the charged aerosolized hydrocarbon particle stream. The reaction conditions include a temperature of from 25&#xb0; C. to 1,000&#xb0; C. and a pressure of from 0 bar to 15 bar. The lower boiling point hydrocarbons includes at least C-Colefins.

A method of producing a catalyst comprises generating an aerosolized flow of catalyst support particles, heating a catalytically active compound precursor to produce a catalytically active compound precursor vapor, contacting the aerosolized flow of catalyst support particles with the catalytically active compound precursor vapor, and condensing the catalytically active compound precursor onto the catalyst support particles to produce the catalyst comprising catalytically active compound deposited on surfaces of the catalyst support particles. The method may further comprise aerosolizing a catalyst support precursor mixture, drying the aerosolized catalyst support precursor mixture in a first heating zone to form an aerosolized flow of catalyst support particles, and contacting the catalyst support particles with a catalytically active compound precursor vapor in a second heating zone to form the catalyst comprising the layer of the catalytically active compound deposited on surfaces of the catalyst of catalyst support particles.

A multi-functional composite catalyst includes a catalyst support material, a preformed catalyst material at least partially secured in the catalyst support, and at least one catalytically active compound supported by the catalyst support, the preformed catalyst material, or both. Embodiments of methods for producing and testing aqueous gas streams within a self-pressurized flow cell are disclosed. The aqueous gas streams comprise mixtures of aqueous salt precursor and aqueous acid precursor that are mixed in-line and introduced to the self-pressurized flow cell to produce aqueous gases. Once in the self-pressurized flow cell, the precursor mixture formed from the mixed aqueous salt precursor and the aqueous acid precursor may react with the sample. Both the sample and the reacted aqueous solution may be subjected to a variety of real-time tests, such electrochemical tests and in line characterization techniques. These embodiments allow for the concentrations of the aqueous salt precursor and the aqueous acid precursor to be accurately and precisely maintained while allowing for increased safety when handling and testing the various toxic aqueous gas streams produced.

The present application provides aerosol processes for selectively incorporating properties of solid precursor particles into processed materials is provided. In one aspect, a carrier gas and a precursor mixture are injected into an aerosol generator. The precursor mixture includes solid precursor particles and a liquid component. One or more ultrasonic transducers are applied to the precursor mixture in the aerosol generator to aerosolize a portion of the precursor mixture that comprises solid particles that are smaller than a predetermined size. The aerosolized portion of the precursor mixture is transferred, via the carrier gas, into a reactor. The aerosolized portion in the reactor is then dried and sometimes reacted to produce solid product particles, and the solid product particles are collected in a particle collector.

Novel methods for processing fumed metallic oxides into globular metallic oxide agglomerates are provided. The methodology may allow for fumed metallic oxide particles, such as fumed silica and fumed alumina particles, to be processed into a globular morphology to improve handling while retaining a desirable surface area. The processes may include providing fumed metallic oxide particles, combining the particles with a liquid carrier to form a suspension, atomizing the solution of suspended particles, and subjecting the atomized droplets to a temperature range sufficient to remove the liquid carrier from the droplets, to produce metallic oxide-containing agglomerations.
