Elongated pin () for an external fixator for temporary and/or permanent fixation applications to treat bone fractures and to connect two or more bone fragments to each other, comprising an elongated cylindrical stem () extending along a longitudinal axis (X) and a conical end portion () with a tip and an external thread for inserting the pin () into a bone, wherein said conical end portion () with a tip has an overall length, measured along the longitudinal axis (X), equal to the diameter (d) of the stem () &#xb1;20% of said diameter (d) and wherein the stem () comprises a cylindrical end area () extending adjacent to the conical portion () and having an external thread which extends over a length, measured along the longitudinal axis (X), equal to the diameter (d) of the stem () &#xb1;25% of said diameter (d).

Elongated pin for application of an external fixator

A device () for locking unicortical pins, comprising: a pin-locking arm () provided with two seats () suitable for locking a corresponding number of unicortical pins (); and a connection base (), intended to couple with a connecting body () of an anchoring group () for an external fixator (), locking means () configured to act simultaneously on the seats (), locking in position two unicortical pins () inserted therein, wherein said locking means () comprise deformable spheres () which are passed through by an insertion channel () for the unicortical pins (), and a pressure plate () acting on the seats () for compress both said deformable spheres () locking in position the unicortical pins () inserted in the respective insertion channels ().

Device for locking uni-cortical pins

The present disclosure relates to an anchoring group for an external fixator, that comprises a connecting body designed to be coupled to a bar of an external fixator. A locking device is connected to the connecting body at a fastening point thereof and comprises a pin locking arm provided with two seats suitable for locking a corresponding number of uni-cortical pins. A connection base is intended to be coupled to a connecting body of the anchoring group. An additional member, also associated with the connecting body, comprises at least one auxiliary seat, not aligned with the seats of the locking device, for locking an additional uni-cortical pin. In an additional embodiment, the connection base of the locking device extends in an angled relationship with respect to the pin locking arm and away from both the seats. The connection base has a point for fastening to the connecting body which is not aligned with said seats.

Anchoring group for external fixator

An anchoring group () for an external fixator (), comprising: a connecting body () designed to be coupled to a bar () of an external fixator (), said connecting body () being crossed by a median plane (M); a first locking device () for locking first unicortical pins and connected to the connecting body (), said first locking device () comprising at least one seat; and a second locking device () for locking second unicortical pins and also connected to the connecting body (), said second locking device () comprising at least one auxiliary seat, which is not aligned with the at least one seat of the first locking device (), said first and second locking devices () extending from different side of said median plane (M), wherein the connecting body () has at least two fastening seats () for each the first and the second locking devices () so as to allow at least two alternative mounting configurations from each side with respect to the median plane (M) of the connecting body ().

Anchoring group for an external fixator

An intramedullary nail for a fractured elongated bone, comprising a cannulated rod having proximal and distal ends; an outside tubular sleeve for coaxially hosting and guiding the rod; and at least a pair of shape memory elements hosted in corresponding seats at the distal end of the rod. Each shape memory element can be retractably housed in its seat in a first configuration, allowing insertion of the nail into the bone, and can project from a sleeve opening in another configuration. Pairs of transversal holes are provided in proximal portions of the rod and the sleeve. The distal pair of shape memory elements lie on an offset plane to the plane of the proximal holes and are kept in their corresponding seats by a distal cover fixed to the rod. This improves the stability of the nail in the medullary canal.

Intramedullary nail with shape memory elements for elongated bones

An intramedullary nail for a fractured elongated bone, comprising a cannulated rod having proximal and distal ends; an outside tubular sleeve for coaxially hosting and guiding the rod; and shape memory elements hosted in corresponding seats of the rod. Each shape memory element can be retractably housed in its respective seat in a first configuration, allowing insertion of the nail into the bone, and can project from a sleeve opening in another configuration. Proximal and distal pairs of the elements are provided at the proximal and distal rod ends. The proximal element pair lie on a same plane and are kept in their seats by a proximal cover. The distal element pair lie on an offset plane to the plane of the proximal element pair and are kept in their seats by a distal cover. This removes the need for bone screws to stabilize the nail inside the medullary canal.

Intramedullary nail with shape memory elements

The invention concerns an intramedullary nail to be inserted into a fractured long bone, for example a femur, comprising: a rod () extending between a proximal part () and a distal part (); a tubular sleeve () into which said rod () is inserted coaxially; at least a first pair of expansion means () located in the distal part () of said rod (), said expansion means () being made of a shape-memory material in order to assume a first configuration of rest in which they are disposed inside recesses in the lateral wall of the nail (), and a second configuration of use in which said means () are located projecting from the lateral wall of the nail (); slots () are present on the tubular sleeve () in correspondence with the shape-memory means () to allow for the fastening onto the bone when the means assume said second configuration of use; where said rod () comprises in correspondence with the proximal end () a transversal channel () for the passage of a stop screw (S), said tubular sleeve () comprising a pair of opposite apertures () placed in alignment with said channel (); and where the distal part () of the rod () does not have any through-channel for a screw.

Intermarrow nail to be inserted into a fractured long bone

An intramedullary nail () suitable for insertion in a fractured elongate bone (), of the type comprising a stem () extended between a proximal end () and a distal end (). The nail comprises a plurality of elements () realized with at least one shape-memory material, a plurality of seats () formed in the stem () for housing the elements (). The elements () are suitable to take a first shape wherein they are retractably housed in the respective seats () and a second shape wherein they project from the respective seats ().

Intramedullary nail comprising elements of shape-memory material

An endomedullary nail for the treatment of proximal femur fractures, comprising an elongate body () having a proximal portion () and a distal portion (). The proximal portion () has a first and a second hole () for a respective cephalic screw (), each having a transversal axis to the axis of the proximal portion (). The first hole () is split into two passages each having a respective axis (A, B) with a predetermined angle relationship with respect to the axis (C) of the second hole (). The passages () are arranged to be selectively engaged by a respective cephalic screw ().

Endomedullary nail for the treatment of proximal femur fractures

An external fixator apparatus () of the ring type for stabilizing bone fractures, including at least one pair of rings (), of which one () is proximal and the other () is distal, and at least one tie rod () interconnecting the rings () to each other. The rod () is split into two rod sections () connected together by a joint () and the joint () includes a pivot mount () having a predetermined axis (x&#x2014;x) for the angular displacement of the rod sections (), and a sliding mount () according to a pre-determined sliding direction (y&#x2014;y) for offsetting the rod sections ().

Ring fixator

External fixation device for reducing bone fractures

The invention relates to a new type of axial unilateral external splint device for stabilizing bone fractures, comprising an extendible rod-like middle body () and oppositely located bone screw clamps () which are articulated to respective ends () of the rod-like middle body () by means of ball joints. Advantageously, a ball-and-socket joint () is mounted to each clamp (), within a main body () with which a bone screw clamping arrangement () is associated or co-operates. Also provided are ancillary members () adapted for removable association with the end of each clamp () to allow each clamp to be more suitable for use, depending on the different operative installation conditions of the fixator.

Axial external fixator

The invention relates to a clamp element for external fixator apparatuses of the rod and ring type used for stabilizing bone fractures in orthopedic surgery; a clamp connector secures at least one of the bone fragment stretching wires and the bone screws to the rings. The invention comprises a swivel joint comprising a first part and a second part associated with each other around a common pivot axis, each part being formed with at least one hole of a predetermined diameter for clamping the stretching wire or the bone screw therein. Also provided on each of the parts are clamping mechanisms for attaching to a rod or to a ring of the fixator device. The clamping mechanisms are used for clamping the stretching wire or the bone screw in the part of the swivel joint which is not connected to the rod or to the ring.
