The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to ranking search results of a search query. In general, the subject matter described in this specification can be embodied in a computer-implemented method that includes determining a measure of relevance for a document result within a context of a search query for which the document result is returned, the determining being based on a first number in relation to a second number, the first number corresponding to longer views of the document result, and the second number corresponding to at least shorter views of the document result; and outputting the measure of relevance to a ranking engine for ranking of search results, including the document result, for a new search corresponding to the search query. The subject matter described in this specification can also be embodied in various corresponding computer program products, apparatus and systems.

Modifying search result ranking based on implicit user feedback

Systems, methods, and computer program products are provided for identifying affiliated domains. A method includes identifying a plurality of domains, where each domain is associated with a particular hostname and each domain includes one or more resources, identifying a set of one or more linked domains, designating one or more domains within the set of linked domains as being affiliated with the first domain, and storing the domain affiliation information. Linked domains are domains from the plurality of domains that are linked to the first domain, and a second domain is linked to the first domain if one of the first or the second domains includes resources containing navigation links to resources of the other domain.

The query is associated with a user locale. A degree of implicit local relevance for the query is determined. One or more search results for the query is received. Each received search result has a respective score and a respective result locale. The score of a respective search result is modified using the degree of implicit local relevance for the query, the user locale, and the respective result locale of the respective search result.
