Bioresorbable bone prosthesis material containing particles of calcium carbonate, originating, for example, from coral skeleton, dispersed within a polymer matrix, the said particles being smaller than 1 mm in size and representing from 40 to 70% of the total weight, and the said polymer being a bioresorbable polymer.

A polymer containing repeating units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl, substituted aralkyl, R.sub.3 is hydrogen, alkyl or CH.sub.2n COOR.sub.8 where n is an integer of 0 to 10, R.sub.6 is OR or NR.sub.4 R.sub.5, wherein R and R.sub.8 are independently hydrogen or a group derived from a compound containing esterifiable hydroxyl groups, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are independently alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl, substituted aralkyl or together comprise an alkylene group.

Malic acid polymers

Osteosynthesis parts are made of an absorbable polymer composition consisting of a matrix of lactic acid homopolymer, or a copolymer very high in lactic acid units, having discrete reinforcement elements embedded therein. The reinforcement elements are made of glycolic acid homopolymer or copolymers predominant in glycolic acid units. Such a composition may be shaped with a minimum of polymer degradation into osteosynthesis parts exhibiting good resilience, shock resistance, and tensile strength.

A polymer containing repeating units of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl, substituted aralkyl, R.sub.3 is hydrogen, alkyl or --CH.sub.2).sub.n COOR.sub.8 where n is an integer of 0 to 10, R.sub.6 is OR or NR.sub.4 R.sub.5, wherein R and R.sub.8 are independently hydrogen or a group derived from a compound containing esterifiable hydroxyl groups, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are independently alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl, substituted aralkyl or together comprise an alkylene group.
