The fibrous polymeric material based on polyvinyl chloride contains at least one antiseptic mercury derivative distributed in its polymeric structure in the form of a substantially molecular and practically non-releasable dispersion. The preferred mercury derivatives have the following general formula: ##STR1## in which Y is H or HgX. If the concentration of the derivative is equal to at least 0.5% by weight, relative to the chlorofiber, the latter has a permanent antiseptic character.
