Substituted succinimides of formula (I) ##STR1## in which R represents an alkyl radical containing 5 to 15 carbon atoms and R.sub.1 represents an oxo-2 morpholino radical or a (carboxymethyl)(hydroxy-2 ethyl) amino radical and their salts, and use for obtaining concentrates intended for metal-working, particularly for combatting corrosion.

Substituted succinimides as corrosion inhibitors

The invention relates to a composition of matter especially adapted to injection into the ground, comprising an alkali metal silicate and at least one water-soluble aminoplastic resin, wherein the aldehyde is selected from the group comprising formaldehyde, glyoxal and a mixture of glyoxal and formaldehyde, and the nitrogenous compound is urea.

Injection composition for filling or reinforcing grounds

Glyoxylic acid and hydrochloric acid are reacted with an aromatic compound having at least one substituent group selected from among the alkyl, aryl, hydroxy, alkoxy and aryloxy groups. The glyoxylic acid is used in a concentration comprised between 60 and 100% and the hydrochloric acid is used in as concentrated an aqueous solution as possible, e.g. in an organic solvent medium such as acetic acid. An acid catalyst such as zinc chloride may be used. The reaction may be carried out under pressure. The products are useful in various syntheses e.g. to produce amino acids or arylacetic acids with medicinal uses.

Process for manufacturing .alpha.-chloroarylacetic acids

Demethylation of the 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid is carried out in the presence of an excess of alkali hydroxide in an amount of ethylene glycol just sufficient to obtain a heterogeneous medium sufficiently fluid in the course of the operation. The ethylene glycol monomethyl ether and the water formed are distilled off progressively with their production and the resulting 4-hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxybenzoic acid is separated by acidification by means of a strong acid and crystallization.
