A multi-piece radial turbine rotor includes a hub, a plurality of turbine blades, and a flowpath ring that couples the turbine blades to the hub. The flowpath ring is coupled with each of the plurality of turbine blades and the hub to locate the flowpath ring radially between the hub and each of the plurality of turbine blades. The flowpath ring is formed to include a plurality of apertures spaced apart from one another about the flowpath ring and extending radially through the flowpath ring. Each of the plurality of apertures receives a corresponding one of the plurality of turbine blades therein. The hub is fixed to the flowpath ring by a friction weld joint and each of the plurality of turbine blades is fixed to the flowpath ring by a blade joint.

A method of assembling a radial turbine rotor includes manufacturing turbine blades, a flowpath ring, and a hub. The method includes fixing the turbine blades circumferentially around the flowpath ring by a blade joint between the turbine blades and the flowpath ring to form a ring assembly. The method includes spinning the hub and moving the hub into engagement with the flowpath ring to locate the hub radially inwardly of the flowpath ring and to form a hub joint between the flowpath ring and the hub.

An exhaust assembly for use with a gas turbine engine includes an exhaust duct and a damper system coupled to the exhaust duct. The exhaust duct is configured for fluid communication with the gas turbine engine to receive hot exhaust gases produced by the gas turbine engine. The exhaust duct includes a plurality of panels that define an exhaust passageway. The damper system is coupled to one of the plurality of panels and is configured to dampen vibration of the exhaust duct during use of the gas turbine engine.

A gas turbine engine includes a combustor having a dual-wall impingement convention effusion combustor tile assembly. The dual-wall tile assembly provides a cooling air flow channel and attachments for securing the tile to the cold skin liner of the combustor. Cooling is more efficient in part due to the dual wall construction and in part due to reduced parasitic leakage, and the design is less sensitive to attachment features which operate at lower temperatures.

A combustor assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a hanger and a combustor liner fixed to the hanger such as, for example, by an annular weld joint. The combustor liner has an inner surface extending along an axis and is operable to define either a radial outer boundary or a radial inner boundary of the combustion chamber. The combustor assembly also includes a heat shield at least partially overlapping and confronting the inner surface of the combustor liner along the axis, with the heat shield releasably engaged with the hanger.

Combustor assembly for a gas turbine engine

A method includes removing a casting shell and core from a cast component, which may be a gas turbine blade. The method further includes utilizing a focused removal technique, such as a water jet or laser drill, to remove a portion of a virtual pattern cast (VPC) shell from the cast component. The cast component is then exposed to a leaching solution and high pressure water wash to remove an internal core material and a portion of the VPC shell remainder from the cast component. The method further includes exposing the cast component to a high agitation leaching solution and to the high pressure water wash for a minimal time. An electroless nickel-boron coating is then applied to the cast component, and an electrolytic palladium coating is further applied to the cast component. The cast component is further exposed to a high agitation leaching solution for an extended period.

System, method, and apparatus for leaching cast components

A combination including a gas turbine engine extending along an axis is disclosed herein. The gas turbine engine includes an annular combustor having a combustor liner. The combination also includes a plurality of projections extending from the combustor liner and spaced from one another circumferentially about the axis. The combination also includes a free-standing ring disposed about the combustor liner and positioned adjacent to the plurality of projections along the axis. The plurality of projections engage the free-standing ring and circumferentially support the combustor liner while allowing relative radial displacement between the combustor liner and the free-standing ring. The combination also includes a plurality of pins each being integrally-formed with one of the plurality of projections. Each of the plurality of pins extends along the axis and is received in one of a plurality of slots formed in the free-standing ring.

Combustor liner support and seal assembly

The present invention contemplates an apparatus for supporting an annular combustor liner in a gas turbine engine. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a plurality of radial lugs extending outwardly from an outer surface of the combustor liner and being spaced circumferentially and uniformly about a periphery of the combustor liner. A band is disposed about the outer surface of the combustor liner and coupled to the radial lugs. The radial lugs each include a radially extending slot having opposing circumferentially facing radial surfaces. The band includes a plurality of pins, each pin being disposed within a respective one of the slots. The pin is configured to bear against at least one of the radial surfaces to provide circumferential support to the combustor liner by substantially preventing relative circumferential movement between the combustor liner and the band. The pin is slidable between the radial surfaces to allow relative radial movement between the combustor liner and the band.
