Disclosed embodiments relate to processing of gestures to cause computation of measurements of a line using a touch screen. A system includes a processor, a touch screen coupled to the processor, a gesture module coupled to the processor for executing a gesturing method. The method includes determining a gesture shape and whether the gesture shape selects a first line segment by intersecting the first line segment. When the gesture shape selects a first line segment, it is then determined whether the gesture shape also selects an additional line segment different from the first line segment. When an additional line segment is not selected, the method calculates the length measurement from the beginning point of the segment to the end point of the selected first line segment. The method further displays the length measurement on a display.

Disclosed examples include drawing apparatus and methods of rendering lines on a display screen, in which a first angle is determined that corresponds to a hand drawn line created by a user on the display screen, and a new line is rendered on the display screen to represent the hand drawn line created by the user. The new line is selectively rendered parallel or perpendicular to an existing line on the display screen at least partially according to the first angle using the processor.

A method and a system for processing gestures to cause computation of measurements of an angle or a segment using a touch screen are disclosed. The system includes a processor, a touch screen coupled to the processor, and a gesture module coupled to the processor for executing a gesturing method. The method includes determining a gesture shape. For example, when the gesture shape is an arc or a line between two touching lines, the method calculates the measurement of the angle between the touching lines and behind the gestured line or arc. When the gesture is a line crossing a segment, the method calculates the measurement from the beginning of the segment to the end of the segment. The method further displays the calculated measurement of at least one of the angle or the segment.

A method for operating a user interface on a system in which objects are displayed on a touch sensitive display screen. A touch coordinate is received from the touch sensitive display screen indicative of a touch location on the display screen. A search area surrounding the touch coordinate is searched for an object. The search area has an initial minimum size. If an object is found within the initial minimum search area it is identified. If no object is found, then the size of the search area is incrementally increased and searched until a final maximum size is reached. If no object is found, then the search is terminated.

Precise object selection in touch sensing systems

Within a display area of a touchscreen, multiple elements are displayed. A location is detected of a physical touch within the display area. In response to determining that an ambiguity exists about which of the elements is being targeted by the physical touch, a menu is displayed on the touchscreen for prompting a user to select between ones of the elements that are at least partially displayed within a specified area around the location. The ambiguity is resolved by receiving a selection from the user via the menu.

A teaching toy (8) includes at least one receptacle (12). Receptacle (12) has a conductive signal-out pad and a plurality of conductive code-in pads (46) at an inner surface. At least one remote unit (14) is included which is removable from receptacle (12). Remote unit (14) has multiple sides and a conductive signal-in pad for capacitive coupling to the signal-out pad. Remote unit (14) also has at least one conductive code-out pad (50) electrically connected to the signal-in pad for capacitive coupling to one of the code-in pads (46). The signal-in pad and the code-out pad (50) are disposed on a first side of unit (14). Remote unit (14) also has a datum disposed on a second side. A processor (20) is included for generating a control signal to the signal-out pad and detecting data signals from the code-in pads (46). Processor (20) associates the data signals with and generates data representing the datum. A memory (22) is included which stores instructions for operating processor (20). An interface device (27) receives the data from processor (20) and communicates the datum to a user.

Apparatus and method for teaching

An echo effect is synthesized in a coded digital sound signal. An input sound signal is stored as a plurality of sequential frames of similar duration, each frame (n) having characteristics including an energy (E). A delay period (d) is selected as equal to a number of time. For each frame (n) later than the duration of frames of the delay (d), the energy E(n) of the frame is compared to an attenuated energy aE(n-d) of an earlier frame (n-d), which is earlier in time than frame (n) by a number of frames equal to the delay (d). If the energy E(n) is less than the attenuated energy aE(n-d) of the earlier frame, the current frame is replaced in an output sequence with a new frame having the non-energy characteristics of the earlier frame and the attenuated energy.
