A laser generator (1,2,3) is arranged to generate successive pairs of pulses. Two light receivers (10,11) in the vicinity of the laser generator receive echos of the pulses as reflected from a target and a processing circuit (15) calculates the component of wind speed blowing across the laser axis between the laser generator and the target. The device can be combined with laser ranging means and used for artillery control.

Device for measuring a component of wind speed

Device for blocking a laser return pulse reflected by a target lit up by an incident high power pulse. It comprises a semiconductive plate on the path of the incident and reflected pulses and means, for generating charge carriers in this semiconductive plate after the crossing by the incident pulse, in order to make it opaque for the reflected pulse and thus to avoid damaging of the laser pulse generator.

Device for blocking a laser beam

Optical device comprising two optical elements made of germanium arranged parallel to each other and intended to have a high-power CO.sub.2 laser beam crossing through them; helium at low temperature flows between the two optical elements and a dry nitrogen flux is directed towards at least one of the input and output faces of the device.
