A gas wiping device for controlling a thickness of a coating layer deposited on a running metal strip plated with molten metal in an industrial hot-dip installation includes: a main nozzle unit and a secondary nozzle unit, for blowing a wiping jet on a surface of the running strip, the main nozzle unit and secondary nozzle unit respectively including a main and secondary chamber fed by pressurized non-oxidizing gas and at least a main and secondary elongated nozzle slot formed in a tip of the respective main and secondary nozzle units, the tips each including an external top side, facing a downstream side of the running strip, and making an angle with the surface of the running strip. The secondary nozzle unit is adjacent the main nozzle unit over an external top side of the main nozzle unit tip.

Device and method for manufacturing a coated metal strip with improved appearance by adjusting a coating thickness using gas jet wiping

A method for controlling and optimizing a transverse uniformity of a coating thickness on at least one side of a running metal strip in an industrial galvanization installation, the coating being deposited by hot dip coating in a pot containing a liquid metal bath, includes at least the steps of: heating the strip substrate to a temperature higher than a pot temperature; passing the strip through the bath by wrapping the strip around at least a first deflector roll or sink roll followed by at least one second deflector roll, the second deflector roll improving a flatness of the strip; wiping excess coating thickness carried away by the strip on one or both sides of the strip by wiping nozzles blowing a gas on the strip at an exit of the liquid metal bath; and measuring an actual distance profile between the nozzles and the strip.

Method for controlling a coating weight uniformity in industrial galvanizing lines

A gas blower device for blowing gas onto a surface of a traveling strip includes a plenum in the form of a hollow box for containing gas and comprising two side surfaces, a back surface and a front surface opposite to the back surface. The front surface having a profile of convex type symmetry with respect to a mid-plane perpendicular to the plane of the strip, so that a middle ridge of the front surface is located at the smallest distance from the plane of the strip. The front surface further presenting multiple tubular nozzles protruding at the front surface and having a gas outlet orifice facing in use the traveling strip. All the outlet orifices are essentially in a plane parallel to the strip plane. The gas blower device further includes a gas intake tube for feeding the plenum with gas.

A method for controlling surface reactions on a steel strip running through a furnace includes, successively, a first section, a second section, and a third section separated by a sealing element, an atmosphere in the second and third sections being oxidizing and reducing respectively, the method including: heating, in the first section, the steel strip to between 600 and 750&#xb0; C., while causing the atmosphere therein to be slightly oxidizing and to include: an Hcontent inferior to 2%; an Ocontent inferior to 0.1%; an HO or CO, or HO+COcontent superior to 0.03%; a controlled dew point ranging from &#x2212;50 to &#x2212;15&#xb0; C.; and a controlled concentration of CO+COmaintained below 2%. All percentages are expressed in terms of volume.

Method and device for reaction control

A furnace for annealing a sheet includes: a first section; a second vertical section, the second vertical section including openings supplied with an oxidizing medium, an opening facing each side of the sheet, and means for separately controlling a flow of the oxidizing medium on each side of the sheet; and a third section. The second vertical section is located in a distinct casing and separated from the first and third sections with sealing devices. The second vertical section includes extraction openings for extracting the oxidizing medium not consumed by the sheet, an extraction opening facing each side of the sheet. The openings supplied with an oxidizing medium are located transversally at one end of the second vertical section. The extraction openings are located transversally at an other end of the second vertical section.

A continuous annealing furnace for annealing steel strips has a reaction chamber wherein the steel strips are transported vertically, the reaction chamber having openings supplied with a reactant, also called reactant openings, located at the top or at the bottom of the reaction chamber, wherein the reaction chamber further has other openings supplied with an inert gas, also called inert gas openings, the inert gas openings being located on the lateral sides of the reaction chamber.

The invention relates to equipment for cooling a metal strip () having a liquid coating to be solidified, wherein said strip is continuously moving. Said equipment is characterized in that each half-cooler () is divided, over the length thereof, into at least two sections, a first section () and a second section (), in the direction of the movement of the strip (). System for reducing the wiping gas consumption in an air knife

A method and apparatus for continuously treating a strip of hot dip-galvanized steel. The method comprises the steps of rapidly reheating the strip to a predetermined temperature between 460.degree. C. and 600.degree. C., with a heating flux greater than 180 kWatts per meter squared based for each face of the strip; maintaining the strip at a substantially constant temperature for a predetermined period of time lasting between 10 and 30 seconds; and subsequently cooling the strip rapidly to a temperature below 420.degree. C., using a cooling flux of a magnitude greater than 100 kWatts per meter squared for each face of the strip. The step of rapidly reheating is performed following a drying operation conducted on the strip as it exits from a zinc bath. The apparatus comprises various elements for performing the method, as well as a vessel containing the zinc bath, redirecting rolls which define an upward and substantially vertical trajectory for the strip and a drying mechanism disposed along the trajectory downstream of the vessel's exit. Preferably, the rapidly heating of the strip is accomplished using an induction furnace operating at a frequency between 100 and 500 kHz, and the rapid cooling is provided by nozzles which, in turn, deliver a mist or fine spray of water and air.
