The presently claimed invention provides a layered catalytic article and an exhaust system. The catalytic article comprises a first layer comprising platinum, a first platinum group metal component other than platinum, a ceria-alumina composite, and an oxygen storage component; wherein platinum is supported on the ceria-alumina component; the platinum group metal component is selected from palladium, rhodium or a combination thereof and the platinum group metal component is supported on the oxygen storage component; a second layer comprising a second platinum group metal component; and a refractory alumina component, an oxygen storage component or a combination thereof; wherein the second platinum group component is selected from platinum, palladium, rhodium or a combination thereof; and a substrate, wherein the amount of platinum is 10 to 80 wt. %, based on the total weight of platinum, palladium and rhodium. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for the preparation of a layered catalytic article and use of the catalytic article and the exhaust system for purifying a gaseous exhaust stream comprising hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides.

Layered catalytic article and method of manufacturing the catalytic article

The present invention provides a catalytic article comprising a) a first layer comprising a nickel component and a copper component supported on a ceria component, wherein the amount of the nickel component is 0.1 to 30 wt. %, calculated as nickel oxide, based on the total weight of the first layer, and wherein the amount of the copper component is 0.01 to 5.0 wt. % calculated as copper oxide, based on the total weight of the first layer; b) a second layer comprising a platinum group metal component supported on at least one of an oxygen storage component, an alumina component and a zirconia component, wherein the platinum group metal component comprises platinum, rhodium, palladium, or any combination thereof, and wherein the amount of the platinum group metal component is 0.01 to 5.0 wt. % based on the total weight of the second layer; and c) a substrate, wherein the first layer and the second layer are separated by a barrier layer or a gap.

Catalytic article and methods of manufacturing and using the same

The presently claimed invention provides a layered catalytic article comprising a first layer comprising a nickel component and a ceria component, wherein the amount of the nickel component is 1.0 to 50 wt. %, calculated as nickel oxide, based on the total weight of the first layer, and wherein the first layer is essentially free of copper; a second layer comprising a platinum group metal component, an oxygen storage component, and an alumina component, wherein the platinum group metal component comprises platinum, rhodium, palladium, or any combination thereof, and wherein the amount of the platinum group metal component is 0.0 to 5 wt. %, based on the total weight of the second layer; and a substrate. The presently claimed invention also provides a process for preparing the layered catalytic article. It further provides an exhaust system for internal combustion engines comprising a layered catalytic article.

Layered catalysts composition and catalytic article and methods of manufacturing and using the same

This disclosure is directed to catalyst compositions, catalytic articles for purifying exhaust gas emissions and methods of making and using the same. In particular, the disclosure relates to a catalytic article including a catalytic material on a substrate, wherein the catalytic material has a first layer and a second layer. The first layer includes a platinum group metal (PGM) component impregnated on a porous support material; and the second layer includes a rhodium component impregnated on a support material, wherein the support material is a composite material including zirconia doped with baria, alumina, or combinations thereof, wherein the zirconia-based support material includes zirconia in an amount from about 80 to about 99 wt. %.

The present disclosure provides catalytic materials and catalytic articles formed therewith. The catalytic materials particularly can include an oxygen storage component comprising a solid solution of at least one platinum group metal and at least one rare earth metal oxide. In one or more embodiments, catalytic materials can include a solid solution of a platinum group metal (e.g., palladium) and a mixed metal oxide (e.g., ceria/zirconia).

Catalytic article comprising combined PGM and OSC

Described are three-way conversion (TWC) catalytic articles effective to abate hydrocarbons (HCs), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NO) from an engine exhaust gas containing phosphorous impurities. The disclosed catalytic article has a layered catalytic material, wherein the first layer of the catalytic material is disposed directly on the substrate and a second layer is disposed on top of the first layer. The second layer includes phosphorus resistant materials that prevent catalytic poisoning of the catalytic article by the phosphorous impurities. In particular, the second layer includes a phosphorus trap material having an alkaline earth metal component and a rhodium component impregnated on a phosphorus-resistant support material.

Described are catalysts effective to abate NO, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide from a gasoline engine exhaust gas. Such catalysts include a substrate having a first and second material disposed thereon, the first material effective to catalyze selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in the presence of ammonia and the second material effective to abate hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, the first material comprising a molecular sieve promoted with copper and/or iron in a low loading, the second material comprising at least one oxide of Ni, Fe, Mn, Co, and Cu on a support selected from oxides of Ce, Ce&#x2014;Zr, Zr, Mn, Pr and combinations thereof. Also described are gasoline engine exhaust gas treatment systems and methods of treating exhaust gas from a gasoline engine.

Exhaust gas treatment catalysts

Composites of mixed metal oxides for an exhaust gas purifying catalyst comprise the following co-precipitated materials by weight of the composite: zirconia in an amount in the range of 55-99%; titania in an amount in the range of 1-25%; a promoter and/or a stabilizer in an amount in the range of 0-20%. These composites are effective as supports for platinum group metals (PGMs), in particular rhodium.

Provided are automotive catalyst composites having a catalytic material on a carrier, wherein the catalytic material comprises at least two layers. The first layer is deposited directly on the carrier and comprises a first palladium component supported on a first refractory metal oxide component, a first oxygen storage component, or a combination thereof. The second layer is deposited on top of the first layer and comprises a rhodium component supported on a second refractory metal oxide component and a second palladium component supported on a second oxygen storage component, a third refractory metal oxide component or a combination thereof. Generally these catalyst composites are used as three-way conversion (TWC) catalysts. Methods of making and using the same are also provided.

Layered automotive catalyst composites

An emissions treatment system for an exhaust stream of an internal combustion engine including hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides is provided. The disclosed system can include an exhaust conduit in fluid communication with the internal combustion engine via an exhaust manifold; a first three-way conversion catalyst (TWC-1) located downstream of the internal combustion engine in the exhaust conduit; an SCR-HCT catalyst comprising a selective catalytic reduction catalyst and a hydrocarbon trap downstream of the TWC-1 in the exhaust conduit; and a third catalyst downstream of the SCR-HCT combination in the exhaust conduit, the third catalyst comprising a platinum group metal (PGM) e.g., in an amount effective to oxidize hydrocarbons. Methods of making and using such systems and components thereof are also provided.

Described is a monolithic support member comprising channels with walls separating the channels and having a coating deposited thereon, the non-coated channels having a polygonal cross-section profile, wherein the mean thickness dof the coating in a corner of said cross-section profile is smaller than or equal to the mean thickness dof the coating on an edge of said cross-section profile plus 85 micrometer. Also described is a method for the preparation of such coated monolithic support member. Further described is the use of such coated monolithic support member as a catalytic article in automotive exhaust gas treatment.

Provided are catalyst composites that can be used in methods for treating exhaust gas from internal combustion engines, including diesel and gasoline engines, systems including such catalyst composites and methods of using the catalyst composites to treat internal combustion engine exhaust. The catalyst composites may provide diesel oxidation catalysts and three-way catalysts. A catalyst composite is provided which a catalytic material on a carrier, the catalytic material including a palladium component dispersed on a first support comprising at least 60% by weight of a zirconia component, and one or more rare earth oxides selected from the group consisting of lanthana, neodymia, praseodymia, yttria, the first support optionally containing no more than 15% by weight ceria, and being free of alumina. Layered catalyst composites having one or more washcoats on the carrier are also provided.

Palladium-supported catalyst composites

Catalysts, systems and methods for abating emissions in an exhaust stream are provided. Systems comprising a transition metal oxide stabilized oxygen storage catalyst are described. The emissions treatment system is advantageously used for the treatment of exhaust streams from lean burn engines including diesel engines and lean burn gasoline engines.
