There is disclosed a method for reducing cross talk between first and second cables in a data transmission system, each of the cables comprised of a pair of conductors. The method comprises the steps of providing a first contact interconnected with a first conductor of the pair of conductors of the first cable, wherein the first contact emits a first signal, providing a pair of contacts, each of the pair of contacts interconnected with a different conductor of the pair of conductors of the second cable, and positioning the first contact relative to the pair of contacts such that an amplitude of the signal received at one of the second pair of contacts is substantially the same as an amplitude of the signal received at another of the second pair of contacts.

Crosstalk reducing conductor and contact configuration in a communication system

There is disclosed conductor and connector configurations for use in communications systems which take advantage of the orientation and positioning of adjacent balanced pairs of conductors to reduce cross talk. These conductor and connector configurations may be used to reduce cross talk between adjacent balanced pairs of a single transmission path, or to reduce alien cross talk between adjacent balanced pairs located in different transmission paths.

A telecommunications cable comprising four twisted pairs of conductors and a separator spline comprised of a principal dividing strip and a first subsidiary dividing strip attached longitudinally along a first side of the principal dividing strip and a second dividing strip attached longitudinally along a second side of the principal dividing strip, the spline separating the four twisted pairs such that they are arranged in a staggered configuration. A method for reducing cross talk between adjacent cables in a telecommunications system, the method comprising the steps of, for each of the cables, providing a plurality of twisted pairs of conductors, winding an elongate filler element around the twisted pairs and covering the twisted pairs and the element with a cable jacket, the element introducing a visible distortion into an outer surface of the jacket.

High performance telecommunications cable

A contact element and mechanism for use in a connector, the connector comprising a socket adapted for receiving a cable plug comprising a terminal contact. The contact element and mechanism comprise a flexible dielectric substrate and a first conductive strip on a first surface of the substrate. When the plug is inserted into the socket, the terminal contact comes into contact with the conductive strip. There is also provided a compensating connector for interconnection with a cable plug, the plug comprising a plurality of terminal contacts. The connector comprises a socket adapted for receiving the plug, a plurality of contact elements disposed in the socket, each of the contact elements comprising a conductive strip, and a compensation network comprised of a plurality of compensating elements. Each of the compensating elements is located adjacent to one of the contact elements. When the plug is inserted into the socket, each of the terminal contacts comes into contact with a predetermined one of the conductive strips.

Telecommunications connector

A method for terminating a telecommunications cable where the cable comprises a plurality of twisted pairs of wires is disclosed. The method comprises providing an interconnection module comprising a pair of contacts for each of the twisted pairs, aligning the end portions and interconnecting each of the aligned end portions with a corresponding pair of conductive contacts. Aligning comprises arranging the end portions such that when connected to the contact pairs, the twisted pairs remain uncrossed.

Method for terminating a telecommunications cable

A method for terminating a telecommunications cable where the cable comprises a plurality of twisted pairs of wires. The method comprises the steps providing an interconnection module comprising a pair of contacts for each of the twisted pairs, aligning the end portions and interconnecting each of the aligned end portions with a corresponding pair of conductive contacts. The aligning step comprises arranging the end portions such that when connected to the contact pairs, the twisted pairs remain uncrossed. A wire lead guide for isolating the end portions of a plurality twisted pairs of wires and a connector assembly using the same. The guide comprises a guide body and a plurality of non-intersecting passageways through the body. Each of the passageways is comprised of an entrance and an exit. The end portions of one of the twisted pairs are inserted through a corresponding one of the passageways. The passageways isolate the twisted pairs of wires from one another.

Wire lead guide and method for terminating a communications cable

A connector assembly for interconnecting an end of a cable comprising one or more twisted pair conductors, each of the conductors enveloped in an insulating covering, with the bifurcated contacts of a connecting block. The assembly comprises an insulated housing and a plurality of non-contacting conductive terminals disposed in the housing. Each of the terminals comprises a blade exposed along a front face of the housing and adapted to be inserted into one of the bifurcated contacts, and a piercing mechanism comprising at least one tooth. Each of the conductors is terminated by one of the terminals, the teeth puncturing the insulated covering of a free end of the conductor thereby bringing the terminal into conductive contact with the conductor.

Connector assembly

A method for terminating a telecommunications cable where the cable comprises a plurality of twisted pairs of wires. The method comprises the steps providing an interconnection module comprising a pair of contacts for each of the twisted pairs, aligning the end portions and interconnecting each of the aligned end portions with a corresponding pair of conductive contacts. The aligning step comprises arranging the end portions such that when connected to the contact pairs, the twisted pairs remain uncrossed. A wire lead guide for isolating the end portions of a plurality twisted pairs of wires an a connector assembly using the same. The guide comprises a guide body and a plurality of non-intersecting passageways through the body. Each of the passageways is comprised of an entrance and an exit. The end portions of one of the twisted pairs are inserted through a corresponding one of the passageways. The passageways isolate the twisted pairs of wires from one another.

A method and apparatus for discharging accumulated static charge in unshielded twisted pair cables. According to one example, an electrical jack includes a housing having an opening defined therein through which a mating plug is received, a grounding strip, and at least one elastically deformable signal contact residing within the housing. As the mating plug is received, the elastically deformable signal contact may move from a position in contact with the grounding strip to a position not in contact with the grounding strip, thereby discharging static charge from the unshielded twisted pair cables and allowing normal connection to the mating plug.
