A MEMS sound generator may be used to produce high-fidelity sound for an aerosol-generating device. The MEMS sound generator may compress air to produce sound using a plurality of drivers at a plurality of frequencies. The sound may emulate the sound of one or more conventional uses of smoking materials, emulate a masking noise, or include information. The sound generated may be modulated based on a user's puff. A user interface may be provided to configure the aerosol-generating device.

A response procedure for an aerosol-generating device includes detecting a fall or shock using at least one acceleration value and initiating at least one response procedure using a controller. Acceleration values are provided by at least one accelerometer coupled to the aerosol-generating device. An aerosol-generating device includes a sound generator to produce sound. The sound may be described as 'high fidelity.' The sound may emulate the sound of one or more conventional uses of different smoking materials, emulate a masking noise, or include information. The sound generated may be modulated based on a user's puff. A user interface may be provided to configure the aerosol-generating device, which may include selection of the smoking material to emulate. The aerosol-generating device may store a library of sounds to use with different types of aerosol-generating substrates. The sound may be retrieved from a plurality of sounds.

A method of generating an aerosol in an aerosol-generating system includes storing liquid aerosol-forming substrate in a liquid storage portion and delivering via a pump a liquid aerosol-forming substrate from the liquid storage portion to an atomizer. The method also includes sensing a puff via a a puff sensor in an airflow path of the aerosol-generating system and determining a puff intensity during the puff via a controller. The delivery flow rate of the liquid aerosol-forming substrate to the atomizer is adjusted in response to the determined puff intensity.

The system includes an aerosol-generating device; an ambient air quality sensor; and a controller. The device includes a housing having a chamber to receive an aerosol-forming substrate; and a heating assembly to heat the substrate when the substrate is received in the chamber. The ambient air quality sensor is arranged to sense a property of the ambient air in the vicinity of the system and the controller is connected to the ambient air quality sensor and is configured to receive ambient air quality readings from the ambient air quality sensor and to output an ambient air quality signal based on one or more of the readings of the ambient air quality sensor.
