The invention relates to a method for separating fractions of a mixture to be separated including the steps of providing a device comprising at least two chromatography columns mounted in series, discontinuously injecting a mixture to be separated, in a single point of the device, discontinuously drawing off the fraction enriched in the product of interest, in a single point of the device, and injecting eluents in each column and displacing the points for injection eluents, the eluents having a different eluting power. The method allows efficient separation which is simple to perform.

Gradient-elution multi-column separation method

A process for separating at least one component of a mixture in a set of closed-loop chromatographic columns is described, whereby the loop comprises at least one feedstock injection point, a raffinate draw-off point, an eluant injection point, and an extract draw-off point, in which a determination is made between an injection point and a draw-off point or vice-versa a chromatographic zone, and at the end of a given period of time, all of the injection points and draw-off points are shifted by the same number of columns or column sections and advantageously by one column or column section in a given direction that is defined relative to that of the flow of a main fluid that circulates through the loop. During the period, the shifting of different injection points and draw-off points of at least one column or column section is done at different times in such a way that the lengths of the zones that are defined by said different points are variable. The process is useful for the separation particularly of stereoisomers for pharmaceuticals.

Process and device for separation with variable-length chromatographic zones

A method for optimizing the operation of a simulated moving bed (LMS) type (closed or open) separation loop consisting of the interconnection in series of beds containing an adsorbent solid phase, divided into several zones, four for example, delimited by fluid injection and draw-off points (F, El, Ex, R). The optimization sought is obtained by selecting initial values to be imposed on operating variables (internal liquid and solid flows, permutation period, etc.) of a simulated moving bed (LMS) from internal flow rates of a true moving bed (LMV), knowing the flow rate of the feedstock (F) injected in the loop and the concentrations of the various constituents of this feedstock. The invention has an application for optimizing aromatic hydrocarbon or optical isomer separation loops.

Method intended to optimize the operation of a system for separating the constituents of a mixture

A simultaneous process for simulated moving-bed dismutation and separation of a toluene feedstock into benzene and xylenes in the presence of a hydrogen-rich desorbent in at least one adsorber-reactor ( ) that contains beds of a solid and comprises at least three zones ( ) is described. Vapor-phase or supercritical feedstock ( ) is introduced at the inlet of a reaction and adsorption zone ( ) (zone III), and a raffinate ( ) that is high in benzene and desorbent is recovered at the outlet. Desorbent ( ) is introduced at the inlet of a desorption zone ( ) (zone I), and an effluent from which is drawn off a portion ( ) in the form of an extract that is high in xylenes and desorbent is recovered at the outlet. The other portion of the effluent of zone I is introduced at the inlet of a reaction and desorption zone ( ) (zone II), and an effluent is recovered at the outlet that is sent back to the inlet of reaction and adsorption zone III. Each of the zones comprises at least one bed that contains an adsorbent that is adapted to separate benzene, toluene and xylenes, and a catalyst that is adapted to dismutate toluene into benzene and xylenes, whereby the adsorbent and the catalyst are in solid form.

For producing three effluents which are respectively rich in straight chain paraffins, in mono-branched paraffins, and in di-branched and tri-branched paraffins possibly with naphthenic and/or aromatic compounds, from C5-C8 cuts or intermediate cuts (C5-C7, C6-C8, C7-C8, C6-C7, C7 or C8), comprising paraffinic and possibly naphthenic and/or aromatic hydrocarbons, and in some cases olefinic hydrocarbons, a chromatographic separation process uses a separation zone operating by adsorption. The process of the invention is of particular application when coupled with a hydro-isomerization process, which selectively recycles straight chain and mono-branched paraffins, necessary for paraffins containing at least 7 carbon atoms.
