A polishing tool for processing an optical surface of a spectacle lens, having a carrier body and a polishing film, an elastic layer being arranged between said polishing film and said carrier body. Further, there is provision for a surface of said polishing film, which surface is active during processing, to decrease in size in an edge region of said polishing film outwards in said radial direction. Furthermore, an apparatus is provided for polishing an optical surface of a spectacle lens having a polishing tool as described above.

In the case of a method and an apparatus for manually aligning ophthalmic spectacle lenses (), in particular semifinished products of progressive lenses, the spectacle lens is held for the purpose of machining the free side of the spectacle lens by a first holder via a connecting material situated therebetween. The holder is inserted into a cutout of a retaining device, the free side being machined. After machining of the free side of the spectacle lens, the first holder is inserted into a cutout of an adapter part that is provided with markings. Thereafter, the spectacle lens is aligned with the aid of the markings of the adapter part, the spectacle lens being held in a second holder via a further connecting material situated therebetween. The second holder is subsequently inserted in the retaining device. Finally, the first holder is removed from the spectacle lens together with the adapter part and the connecting material.

A process and an apparatus are used for making spectacle lenses from plastic material. The spectacle lenses are worked by working plastic material blanks as a function of data representing the surface of the finished spectacle lens as well as work process parameters. The plastic material blanks are worked in one of a plurality of de-centralized units. For individualized spectacle lenses the data are computed in a central unit as first data and are transmitted to the decentralized unit, and for non-individualized spectacle lenses the data are read out of a first memory in the decentralized unit.
