A dispensing apparatus for particulate matter which distributes the particulate matter, at substantially the same rate, uniformly across a given area of a vessel and comprises a particle container having an opening at one end for receiving particulate material into an upwardly directed end and an outlet end at an opposite end for flowing particulate material. A rotor having multiple elongated, hollow arms, an opening at one end for receiving particulate material from the particle container, the multiple arms each having at least one aperture located in a lower portion thereof for discharging particulate material, wherein the rotor is rotatably positioned below and adjacent to the outlet end of the particle container to permit the flow of particulate material from the particle container to the rotor. A baffle plate having multiple elongated leaves, rotatably positioned around a vertical central axis of the rotor and having dimensions capable of reducing the flow of particulate material from the rotor apertures is located in close proximity to each of the apertures of the rotor. A fastening member is provided on the rotor for releasably fastening the baffle plate to the rotor. A rotating member is also provided for rotating the rotor in communication with the particle container in order to evenly distribute particulate matter on a bed below.

Apparatus for dispensing particulate material

A dispensing apparatus for particulate matter which distributes the particulate matter, at substantially the same rate, uniformly across a given area. The apparatus is particularly suitable for dispensing particulate matter in a vessel having a centrally located vertical support member.

An improved butane isomerization process which decreases the rate of catalyst deactivation is disclosed. A normal butane feed stream which contains small amounts of isobutylene is passed through a polymerization zone wherein the isobutylenes are converted into heavier hydrocarbons. The polymerization zone effluent is passed into the deisobutanizer column in which the isomerization zone effluent is separated for the recovery of the product isobutane. Heavy hydrocarbons are removed as a net bottoms stream and the remaining fresh feed components become part of the normal butane recycle stream removed from the deisobutanizer as a sidecut stream.

Butane isomerization process

A process for the hydrofluoric acid-catalyzed alkylation of an isoparaffin with an olefin in a gravity-flow hydrofluoric acid alkylation reaction system. The process is effected without benefit of an acid regenerator. Regeneration is effected an isostripper column, and catalyst-contaminating polymeric products of the alkylation are recovered in the normally liquid alkylate product substantially free of hydrofluoric acid.

HF Alkylatior process

An improvement is disclosed in a process for the acid-catalyzed alkylation of an isoparaffin with an olefin alkylating agent. The improvement relates to an alkylation process wherein the hydrocarbon phase of the alkylation reaction mixture is introduced into a common fractionation column with a field butane stream comprising olefinic materials. The improvement comprises initially clay-treating said field butane stream.

HF Alkylation process

A process is disclosed for the alkylation of an aromatic hydrocarbon with an olefin-acting alkylating agent. The aromatic hydrocarbon is commingled with a first portion of said alkylating agent in a first alkylation reaction zone at alkylation reaction conditions in contact with a hydrofluoric acid catalyst. The acid phase of the effluent from the first alkylation reaction zone is separated, and the hydrocarbon phase, comprising alkylate and unreacted aromatic hydrocarbon is commingled with a second portion of said alkylating agent at alkylation reaction conditions in a second alkylation reaction zone in contact with a hydrofluoric acid catalyst separately charged thereto, the hydrofluoric acid catalyst being that separated from the effluent of the first alkylation reaction zone. The acid phase is separated from the effluent from the second alkylation reaction zone and recycled to the first alkylation reaction zone, and the alkylate product is recovered from the hydrocarbon phase.

Alkylation process

A process is disclosed for the alkylation of an isoparaffinic hydrocarbon with an olefin-acting alkylating agent. The isoparaffinic hydrocarbon is commingled with a first portion of said alkylating agent in a first alkylation reaction zone at alkylation reaction conditions in contact with a hydrofluoric acid catalyst. The acid phase of the effluent from the first alkylation reaction zone is separated, and the hydrocarbon phase, comprising alkylate and unreacted isoparaffin, is commingled with a second portion of said alkylating agent at alkylation reaction conditions in a second alkylation reaction zone in contact with a hydrofluoric acid catalyst separately charged thereto, the hydrofluoric acid catalyst being that separated from the effluent of the first alkylation reaction zone. The acid phase is separated from the effluent from the second alkylation reaction zone and recycled to the first alkylation reaction zone, and the alkylate product is recovered from the hydrocarbon phase.

Plural stages of hydrofluoric acid alkylation utilizing separated acid

A process for the production of motor fuel by the polymerization of aliphatic C.sub.3 and C.sub.4 mono-olefins wherein a small amount of a liquid aromatic hydrocarbon is passed through the polymerization zone to remove polymers. By-product alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons are retained in the motor fuel product as high octane components.

Process for motor fuel production by olefin polymerization

Solid catalysts including solid phosphoric acid catalysts are regenerated in-situ in a multi-step method. A sequence which includes depressurization, soaking in an aromatic hydrocarbon-containing liquid at a high temperature and pressure, depressurization and draining is repeated three times. The regeneration removes polymers formed from olefinic reactants.

Catalyst regeneration method

A process and apparatus for the hydrogen fluoride-catalyzed alkylation of hydrocarbonaceous species, utilizing multiple reaction zones, in which the inventories and strengths of catalysts within the several reaction zones are controlled. A portion of the catalyst from a reaction zone over-abundant in either acid strength or acid inventory is educted from that zone and passed to a reaction zone deficient in either acid strength or acid inventory. The apparatus includes catalyst recycle conduits within each reaction-settling zone and conduit means for interconnecting the individual recycle conduits to provide alternative flow paths to move catalyst from one recycle conduit to another recycle conduit or vice-versa.

Hydrogen fluoride-catalyzed alkylation apparatus

The reaction product effluent emanating from an isoparaffinic/olefinic, HF-alkylation reactor system, containing normal paraffins, motor fuel, alkylate, unreacted isoparaffins, hydrogen fluoride catalyst and organic fluoride compounds, is separated to recover a motor fuel alkylate product substantially free from fluoride compounds, and having a predetermined volatility, or vapor pressure. Two separation zones are employed to produce an alkylate containing hydrogen fluoride and a normal paraffin stream containing organic fluoride and hydrogen fluoride. Three treating zones afford the recovery of a fluoride-free motor fuel alkylate and a fluoride-free normal paraffin concentrate; a portion of the latter is blended with the former to adjust the volatility to the predetermined level.

Vapor pressure-adjusted motor fuel alkylate of reduced fluoride content

Byproduct or waste gases, containing hydrogen fluoride from an HF-catalyzed aromatic alkylation process are contacted with a stream of alkylated aromatics essentially free from hydrogen fluoride. Hydrogen fluoride from the waste gases is absorbed within the alkylated aromatics and is returned to the process therewith. Resulting waste gases are of reduced hydrogen fluoride content, and the loss of hydrogen fluoride upon disposal of these gases is thereby reduced.

Process for alkylation of aromatics

Byproduct or waste gases, containing hydrogen fluoride, from an HF-catalyzed hydrocarbon alkylation process are contacted with a stream of liquid hydrocarbon essentially free from hydrogen fluoride. Hydrogen fluoride from the waste gases is recovered within the liquid hydrocarbon and is returned to the process therewith. Resulting waste gases are of reduced hydrogen fluoride content, and the recovery of hydrogen fluoride is thereby increased.

Recovery of gaseous hydrogen fluoride stream in alkylation process

An improved HF alkylation process for producing alkylated isoparaffins wherein capital cost, operating costs and energy consumption are reduced by elimination of the necessity of the commonly-included catalyst regeneration facilities. Hydrocarbonaceous polymers which form collateral to alkylation reactions occurring in a reaction zone, and which contaminate the acid catalyst therein, are routed to pass through reboiling means of two fractionators whereby HF and some combined fluorides in the polymers are removed and the polymers exit the process with an alkylate product. Some decomposition of the combined fluorides prevents fluorine contamination of the alkylate product.

Acid purification and recycle in HF-catalyzed alkylation

HF-containing vent gases, relief gases, CBM and polymers discharged from the alkylation zone of an HF alkylation process are contacted with water. Hydrogen fluoride is absorbed within the water, reacted with olefins, converted to organic fluorides and returned to the alkylation zone of the process. HF leaving the alkylation process in vent gases, relief gases, CBM and polymers is thereby recovered.
