Fiber optic connectors and connectorized fiber optic cables include connector housings having locking portions defined on the connector housing that allow the connector housing to be selectively coupled to a corresponding push-button securing member of a multiport assembly. Methods for selectively connecting a fiber optic connector to and disconnecting the fiber optic connector from the multiport assemblies allow for connector housings to be forcibly and nondestructively removed from the multiport assembly.

Fiber optic connectors and multiport assemblies including retention features

Extender ports comprising one or more connection ports with associated securing features and methods for making the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the device comprises a shell, a first and second connection port, at least one securing feature passageway, and at least one securing feature. The first and second connection ports are disposed on the extender port and aligned for making an optical connection between external fiber optic connectors inserted into respective connection ports. The securing features are associated with the connection port passageway, and are suitable for retaining and releasing the external fiber optic connectors.

In one embodiment, the device comprises a shell, at least one connection port, at least one securing feature passageway, and at least one securing feature. The at least one securing feature is associated with the connection port passageway, and the at least one securing feature is disposed within a portion of the at least one securing feature passageway.

Devices such as multiports comprising connection ports with associated securing features and methods for making the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the device comprises a shell, at least one connection port, at least one securing feature passageway, and at least one securing feature. The at least one connection port is disposed on the multiport with the at least one connection port comprising an optical connector opening extending from an outer surface of the multiport to a cavity of the multiport and defining a connection port passageway. The connection port passageway defines a keying portion. The at least one securing feature is associated with the connection port passageway, and the at least one securing feature is disposed within a portion of the at least one securing feature passageway.

Multiports and other devices having keyed connection ports and securing features and methods of making the same

Fiber optic cable assemblies and methods of fabrication are disclosed. In one embodiment, a fiber optic cable assembly includes a fiber optic cable and a connector assembly. The connector assembly includes a connector body having a body passageway and a body aperture. The connector assembly further includes a crimp ring, a crimp body and a locking element. The crimp ring includes a first end, a second end, a crimp ring passageway, and a crimp ring aperture. The crimp body includes a crimp body passageway and one or more crimp features. The crimp body is crimped to the cable jacket such that the strength members wrap around the cable jacket and are disposed between the crimp body and the cable jacket. The second end of the crimp ring is crimped to the crimp body. The locking element is disposed within the body aperture and the crimp ring aperture.

Fiber optic cable assemblies and connector assemblies having a crimp ring and crimp body and methods of fabricating the same

A fiber optic connector comprising a connector body that can receive the optical cable and a complimentary receptacle. Fiber optic connector comprises a ferrule body having a passageway to guide an optical fiber of the optical cable, and a compress body being arranged between the connector body and the ferrule body. The compress body has a hollow area to receive the optical fiber. The compress body is configured to exert a force to the ferrule body so that the end face of the ferrule body is moved in a forward direction away from the connector body, when an external force is applied to an outer surface of the compress body. Methods of making assemblies are also disclosed.

Optical connection systems, optical cable assemblies, and optical receptacle assemblies for optically coupling multiple optical fibers are disclosed. In one embodiment, an optical receptacle assembly includes a receptacle housing, wherein the receptacle housing defines a receptacle passage, and an adapter sleeve disposed within the receptacle passage of the receptacle housing. The adapter sleeve includes a sleeve passage and a sleeve inner threaded surface. The optical receptacle assembly further includes an adapter housing disposed within the receptacle passage having a first connector opening and a second connector opening, a first receptacle optical connector and a second receptacle optical connector. The first receptacle optical connector is disposed within the first connector opening of the adapter housing and the second receptacle optical connector is disposed within the second connector opening of the adapter housing.

Optical connector assemblies, optical receptacle assemblies and optical connection systems having multiple optical fibers

Hybrid optical cables, hybrid optical connectors, and hybrid optical adapters are disclosed. In one embodiment, a hybrid optical connector includes a connector housing having an insertion portion, wherein the insertion portion is asymmetric with respect to a mid-plane of the connector housing that is positioned in an optical axis of the hybrid optical connector. The hybrid optical connector further includes a ferrule disposed within the connector housing, and a first hermaphroditic electrical contact and a second hermaphroditic electrical contact disposed within the connector housing adjacent opposing sides of the ferrule.

A fiber optic connector includes polymeric material arranged within a front end portion of at least one internal bore of a ferrule. At least a portion of the polymeric material extends from a terminal end of at least one optical fiber to at least a front end of the ferrule. A polymeric material end face serving as a conduit for transmitting optical signals to and/or from the at least one optical fiber. Waveguiding regions may be incorporated in polymeric material assemblies. Polymeric material may be printed, dispensed, or otherwise applied over the terminal end of the at least one optical fiber in the at least one internal bore, and subsequently cured. Polymeric material arranged over (e.g., in contact with) the terminal end of an optical fiber may reduce or eliminate the need for fiber end face polishing, and creates physical contact through an optical interface without exerting undue mechanical stresses on the optical fiber.

Fiber optic connectors and methods of making the same

An integrated electrical and optoelectronic package comprises an optical subassembly for the conversion of data between an optical and electrical format, an electronic chip including an integrated electric circuit for processing the data in the electrical format and an interposer. The interposer is configured as a supporting substrate to support the optical subassembly and the electronic chip. An optical connector may be coupled to the package. The optical subassembly comprises an optical adaptor used as an interface between a ferrule of the optical connector and an optoelectronic chip of the optical subassembly. Optical fibers of the optical cable are aligned to optical waveguides of the optoelectronic chip by at least one alignment pin of the optical adaptor.
