A patient support apparatus for use in treating patients with behavioral health indicia. The patient support apparatus includes a support structure with a patient support deck defining a patient support surface having one or more ligature risk locations arranged outside of a ligature safety zone defined relative to the patient support surface. A sensor system is coupled to the support structure to generate data representing load acting on the support structure. A controller is disposed in communication with the sensor system and is configured to issue a ligature risk event alert in response to the data generated by the sensor system satisfying a predetermined load criteria indicating a distribution of load acting on the support structure outside of the ligature safety zone for a predetermined period.

Patient support apparatus for treating patients presenting behavioral health indicia

A cover system for selectively blocking insertion of unauthorized objects through an aperture of a restraint mount of a patient support apparatus is provided. The cover system includes a cover and an instrument having an interface. The cover includes a brace and a restrictor coupled to the brace. The brace attaches to the patient support apparatus adjacent to the aperture and the restrictor operates in a restrict mode blocks access to the aperture and a permit mode where the restrictor permits access to the aperture. The cover also includes a lock mechanism, which includes a keeper movable between a locked state where movement of the restrictor is inhibited and an unlocked state where movement of the restrictor is permitted. The keeper moves from the locked state to the unlocked state in response to selective engagement between the interface of the instrument and a receiver of the lock mechanism.

Cover systems for blocking apertures of patient support apparatuses

A patient support apparatus comprising a base, an intermediate frame arranged for movement relative to the base, a support deck disposed on the intermediate frame to provide support for a patient, and a telescoping assembly operatively attached to the intermediate frame. The telescoping assembly comprises a support movable between a collapsed position and an extended position, a lock operable to releasably hold the support in the extended position, and an accessory manually movable by a user relative to the support between a stowed position and a use position. The accessory comprises a deactivator operable to deactivate the lock remotely from the user in response to the user manually moving the accessory relative to the support toward the stowed position thereby enabling movement of the support from the extended position to the collapsed position.

Patient support apparatus having a telescoping assembly

A telescoping assembly for use on a patient support apparatus. The telescoping assembly comprises an accessory and a telescoping support slidable to extend the accessory. A locking device releasably holds the telescoping support in the extended position. The accessory is manually movable by a user between a stowed position and a use position. The accessory comprises a deactivator portion operable to deactivate the locking device remotely in response to the user manually moving the accessory relative to the telescoping support toward the stowed position.
