A substantially cylindrical, or tubular, garment structure can be provided using a three-dimensional or circular knitting machine, using a mold, or using an additive manufacturing process. A unit segment of the garment structure can include two waistband regions at opposite end faces of the cylindrical garment structure, and each of the waistband regions can correspond to a different one of two nested articles. Each of the two nested articles can be converted into a separate and distinct brief-style absorbent underwear assembly. In an example, a waistband region and body panel region of an absorbent underwear product can be formed using the same knitted material in a continuous, three-dimensional knitting process.

Seamless disposable absorbent garment

An absorbent article such as a diaper can include three or more absorbent core structures for improved acquisition speed, reduced bulkiness, increased retention capacity, and improved dryness, including over multiple insults. The three or more absorbent core structures can at least partially overlap in a stacked or layered configuration in an insult zone of the article. At least one of the core structures can include an absorbent polymer or airlaid material. The absorbent polymer can be located primarily in the insult zone, and one or more of the absorbent core structures can extend beyond the insult zone. In an example, each of the at least three absorbent core structures has a different body-side surface area.

Multi-core absorbent article

A hot melt delivery system includes a frame and a suspension device attached to the frame. The suspension device is configured to hang a hot melt storage container. The hot melt delivery system includes a vibratory feeder spaced below and from the suspension device. The vibratory feeder includes an inlet that is configured to receive hot melt material from the hot melt storage container. The vibratory feeder includes an outlet that is configured to deliver hot melt material to a melter. The vibratory feeder includes a vibration device that is configured to vibrate at least a portion of the vibratory feeder. A flow of hot melt material between the inlet and the outlet of the vibratory feeder is controllable.

Hot melt delivery system

A dispenser for dispensing liquid material while attenuating the liquid material and controlling the pattern of the liquid material with process air has a manifold with a plurality of process air passages for providing the process air to one or more liquid dispensing modules. The pressure of process air to one or more of the modules may be separately controlled to be different from the pressure provided to other modules on the dispenser. Accordingly, the air pressure provided to each module can be optimized to accommodate a particular dispensing die.

A method of dispensing adhesive onto a stretched elastic strand includes applying a first volume of adhesive onto a first portion of the elastic strand, applying a second volume of adhesive onto a second portion of the elastic strand, and applying a third volume of adhesive onto a third portion of the elastic strand. The second volume is less than the first and third volumes. When the elastic strand is adhered to a substrate to form a personal disposable hygiene product, the first and third portions of the elastic strand define opposing ends of the elastic strand, which are adhered with a larger amount of adhesive to resist creep at the opposing ends. The reduction of adhesive in the second or central portion between the opposing ends significantly reduces the adhesive add on in the personal disposable hygiene product.

Dispensing apparatus for applying adhesive on an elastic strand in a personal disposable hygiene product

A dispenser for dispensing liquid material while attenuating the liquid material or controlling the pattern of the liquid material with process air has a plurality of process air passages for providing process air to one or more liquid dispensing modules or nozzles. The flow rate of process air provided to one or more of the modules or nozzles may be separately controlled to be different from the flow rate provided to other modules or nozzles on the dispenser. Accordingly, the flow rate provided to each module or nozzle can be optimized to accommodate a particular dispensing nozzle or die.

A method of dispensing adhesive onto a stretched elastic strand includes applying a first volume of adhesive onto a first portion of the elastic strand, applying a second volume of adhesive onto a second portion of the elastic strand, and applying a third volume of adhesive onto a third portion of the elastic strand. The second volume is less than the first and third volumes. When the elastic strand is adhesively secured to a substrate to form a personal disposable hygiene product, the first and third portions of the elastic strand define opposing ends of the elastic strand, which are adhered with a larger amount of adhesive capable of limiting movement of the strand at the opposing ends, thereby maintaining the integrity of the bond between the substrate and the elastic strand.

Dispensing apparatus for applying adhesive on an elastic strand in assembly of a personal disposable hygiene product

A liquid dispensing module and nozzle or die tip for discharging at least one liquid filament. The nozzle includes a strand guide for guiding a substrate past the nozzle and a frustoconical protrusion disposed on a surface of the nozzle adjacent the notch. A liquid discharge passage extends along an axis through the frustoconical protrusion and forms an acute angle with a machine direction corresponding to movement of the strand past the nozzle. Four air discharge passages are positioned at the base of the frustoconical protrusion. Each of the air discharge passages is angled in a compound manner generally toward the liquid discharge passage and offset from the axis of the liquid discharge passage to create the controlled pattern of liquid material on the strand.

Method for dispensing controlled patterns of liquid material

A method and devices for dispensing adhesive onto an elastic strand are configured to apply first, second, and third volumes of adhesive onto first, second, and third portions of the elastic strand, respectively. When the elastic strand is adhesively secured to a substrate to form a personal disposable hygiene product, the first and third portions of the elastic strand define opposing ends of the elastic strand, which are adhered with a larger amount of adhesive or a stronger adhesive material capable of limiting movement of the strand at the opposing ends. The method and devices advantageously use a module and nozzle which maintain separation between first and second adhesive streams received from different adhesive supplies at least until flow within the nozzle. This arrangement enables use of different adhesives to form the first, second, and third volumes, as well as 'wet-on-wet' contact dispensing using multiple nozzle outlets.

A method of bonding first and second strands onto a substrate traveling along a machine direction in a plane of travel. The method includes moving the first and second strands in the machine direction relative to a nozzle having a nozzle body with first and second liquid discharge passages, and first and second side-by-side notches. The first and second strands are guided for movement by engaging closed ends of the respective first and second notches. Open ends of the first and second notches are oriented or directed non-perpendicular to the plane of travel of the substrate. Liquid adhesive is dispensed onto the first and second strands from the liquid discharge passages and the first and second strands are bonded to the substrate.

Method for guiding and bonding strands to a substrate

A disposable absorbent garment can include a waistband assembly that is configured to be worn about a waist of a subject, and an absorbent panel assembly having first and second ends that are coupled to the waistband assembly. The absorbent panel assembly can include a liquid-pervious body-side layer, a liquid impervious external layer, and an absorbent core positioned between the body-side and external layers. At least one of the absorbent panel assembly or the waistband assembly includes a contraction region, such as near the absorbent core, that is configured to be extensible and retractable along a longitudinal axis of the absorbent core. The longitudinal axis can be substantially parallel to a vertical or height axis of a wearer when the absorbent garment is worn by an upright or standing individual.
