A site-selectable, helmet-installable load-cushioning pad structure employable inside a helmet shell as a part of a plural-spaced-pad distribution featuring a compressible viscoelastic foam core which resists rapid, but not slow-movement, compression. Associated methodology includes the steps of providing such a structure for installation inside the shell of a helmet, and pre-arming the core of that structure with a load-response characteristics which (a) resists sudden-movement, rapid compression, yet (b) offers less resistance to slow-movement compression. An encapsulating moisture barrier layer may be provided around the foam core.

Helmet cushioning pad with variable, motion-reactive applied-load response, and associated methodology

A moisture-barriered, body-contact protective interface structure including a core, viscoelastic, acceleration-rate-sensitive cushioning structure, and a moisture-barriering container surrounding the cushioning structure, with the container being operable to block the flow of moisture while accommodating gas breathability for the cushioning structure.

Moisture-barriered, body-contact protective interface structure

A stretchable-adjustable, cushioning helmet insert employable in the hollow, domed interior of a helmet shell. The insert includes a generally domed cap formed of a reversibly stretchable fabric, and adapted for installation within the interior such a shell, and cushioning structure in the form of plural, spaced cushioning pads positionally affixed to the inside of the cap in a manner whereby expansion and contraction of the cap causes spatial retreat and closure, respectively, of the spacings existing between each pad and its neighboring pads. This insert accommodates proper-fit the 'insertion', into a single-size helmet shell, of the different 'effective' head sizes associated with a single user, such as a firefighter, who may, at certain times, be wearing no other headgear, and at other times, may be wearing auxiliary (and somewhat bulky) head-borne equipment, such as an oxygen mask.

Stretchable, size-adaptable fabric helmet insert with shock-absorbing structure

A topographically self-stabilizing, dynamic pressure-evenizing, pressure-applying, anatomical dressing which includes a pressure-applying, acceleration-rate-sensitive, temperature and pressure responsive, cushioning layer which responds during a bandaging situation, both statically and dynamically, to maintain relatively uniform all-over pressure beneath it, and against the surface of a site, such as a surgical wound site.

Pressure-evenizing low-rebound wound dressing

A plural-layer body-contacting cushioning interface structure which is interposable the human body and an external structure, such as a helmet. The cushioning structure of the invention, in one preferred form, has a body-facing side which contacts the body, and a load-facing side which contacts the mentioned external structure. Intermediate these sides is a moisture-wicking layer which is designed to contact, and draw moisture away from, the body, a continuous, moisture-blocking, gas-permeable barrier layer adjacent the moisture-wicking layer, and an acceleration-rate-sensitive cushioning structure disposed protectedly within the barrier layer which fully encapsulates the cushioning structure.
