A microprocessor-based transformer monitoring system to provide continuous on-line monitoring and analysis of transformer operation. The transformer monitoring system periodically monitors various parameters related to transformer load and condition. Maximum, minimum, and instantaneous values of the parameters are stored and analzyed. To perform the analysis, a hierarchy of thresholds is associated with each parameter. When a parameter exceeds any one of the thresholds, a response is produced by the transformer monitoring system. The type of response depends on the level of the exceeded threshold in the hierarchy. The range of response produced by the transformer monitoring system includes: continuing normal periodic data collection and analysis, increasing the rate of data collection and analysis, recommending an on-site physical check of the monitored transformer, reducing transformer load, and taking the transformer off line.

Method and apparatus for monitoring transformers

A transformer characterized by groups of low voltage and high voltage windings inductively related to a core member, and a shunt of magnetizable microlaminations disposed between the low and high voltage windings, whereby the shunts independently adjust the transformer impedance.

Electrical inductive apparatus for minimizing power losses in heating of a tank of an electrical inductive structure due to a magnetic field characterized by a tank having a metal wall including openings therein, electrical inductive apparatus within the tank and having terminals thereon, a bushing extending through each opening, conductor means extending through each bushing and connected to the terminals, an electrically conductive shielding member within the tank and disposed between the openings, an electrically conductive member externally of the tank, the shielding member being electrically connected to the electrically conductive member through the openings, whereby the tank is shielded from magnetic fields generated by load currents flowing through the conductor means to minimize power losses and heating of the tank wall.

Shielding device for electrical inductive structure

The electrical inductive apparatus including non-magnetic flux shields constructed of strips of highly electrically conductive material which are arranged to form a continuous loop around the core window. The shields are disposed parallel to the laminations of the magnetic core and adjacent the top and bottom surfaces of the core. Current induced in the shields by the leakage flux from the windings produces an opposing flux which prevents substantially all of the winding leakage flux from entering the magnetic core.
