Disclosed herein is a system comprising: a hydrogen fuel cell; a fuel storage tank; a regulator coupled to the storage tank and the fuel cell; an electronic auto pilot; a rechargeable battery; a power electronics module for delivering power from the fuel cell to the autopilot and the battery; and a heat exchanger coupled to the fuel cell. The fuel cell is characterized by: a minimum continuous power output of no more than 25 W; a maximum continuous power output of no less than 5000 W; a specific power of at least 200 W/kg based on the mass of the fuel cell and any control electronics, cooling components, air delivery components, and water management components; an ability to operate at least 2 psig of hydrogen at an inlet; and an ability to operate at temperatures up to 90&#xb0; C.

Hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system

A bipolar plate for a fuel cell is provided. The bipolar plate includes a main body with a first end and a second end spaced from the first end along a longitudinal axis of the main body. At least one inlet is disposed at the first end of the main body. At least one outlet corresponding to the at least one inlet is disposed at the second end of the main body. At least one continuous flow path extends from the at least one inlet to the at least one outlet. The main body comprises a single, contiguous piece.

A memory and method for operating it provide for increased data access speed. In an implementation, a synchronous memory or SDRAM includes a central memory region with memory blocks arranged in sets on respective opposite sides. A number of primary sense amplifier sets are provided, each set being associated with a respective set of the memory blocks and located adjacent. A row cache is provided in the central memory region, and row decoders decode a row address in response to a 'bank activate' command and move data from a decoded row address into a primary sense amplifier set associated with a memory block containing the decoded row address and into the row cache, before application of a 'read' command to the SDRAM. Column decoders decode a column address in response to a &#x201c;read&#x201d; command and for reading data from the cache in accordance with the decoded column address.

Method and circuit for increasing the memory access speed of an enhanced synchronous memory

An SDRAM and method for operating it provide for increased data access speed. The SDRAM includes a central memory region with memory blocks arranged in sets on respective opposite sides. A plurality of primary sense amplifier sets are provided, each set being associated with a respective set of the memory blocks and located adjacent thereto. A row cache is provided in the central memory region, and row decoders decode a row address in response to a &ldquo;bank activate&rdquo; command and move data from a decoded row address into a primary sense amplifier set associated with a memory block containing the decoded row address and into the row cache, prior to application of a &ldquo;read&rdquo; command to the SDRAM. Column decoders decode a column address in response to a &ldquo;read&rdquo; command and for reading data from the cache in accordance with the decoded column address.

Method and circuit for increasing the memory access speed of an enhanced synchronous SDRAM

An apparatus and method for quickly drying solutions in one or more arrays of vessels includes a manifold that receives gas and a base plate that receives the one or more arrays of vessels. The manifold includes one or more hollow tubes that direct the gas into the vessels, where the gas evaporates the solutions. A variety of types of hollow tubes are disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the gas is filtered, pressurized and/or heated. In an exemplary embodiment, the solutions are heated. The base plate is hingeably coupled to the manifold so that the base plate has an open position and a closed position. The open position permits users to place and remove the vessels that contain solutions to be dried. In the closed position, the base plate and the manifold are in sealing engagement with one another, wherein the one or more of the hollow tubes extend into the vessels. A unique hinging system is disclosed that couples one or more base plates to a base so that, when the base plate is in the open position, the base plate is substantially horizontal. When the base plate is in the closed position, it is tilted at an angle so that the vessels are tilted at the angle, providing the solutions to be dried with a greater surface area. A variety of optional vapor recovery systems are disclosed. A variety of open loop and closed loop electrical control systems are disclosed.

Apparatus and method for drying solutions containing macromolecules

An apparatus for washing magnetic particles including a well plate for receiving an array tube holder having x rows of tubes, each tube containing magnetic particles, the well plate having (x&plus;1) rows of wells for enabling the array tube holder to be shifted from a first position to a second position. The apparatus also includes ((x/2)&plus;1) rows of magnets asymmetrically positioned within the well plate adjacent to the rows of wells. Placing the array tube holder in the first position causes magnetic fields produced by each magnet to attract the magnetic particles in the x rows of tubes to one side of each tube, and shifting the array tube holder to the second position reverses the magnetic fields, causing the magnetic particles to stream across to the other side of each tube. The array tube holder may be a 96 tube array tube holder (8 rows by 12 columns) in which case, the well plate includes 108 wells (9 rows by 12 columns) for simultaneously washing 96 tubes.

Apparatus for washing magnetic particles

An adaptor for a multi-channel pipettor which allows the user to load multiple wells of a gel simultaneously using gel loading tips. The adaptor has apertures at the top which lead to channels which travel the length of the adaptor and exit at the bottom. Gel loading tips, already affixed onto a multi-channel pipettor, are inserted into the apertures at the top of the adaptor and the ends of the tips exit the adaptor through apertures at the bottom of the adaptor. The apertures at the bottom of the adaptor are spaced so that they match the spacing of wells for various gels.

Gel loading adapter

An automated dispensing device is provided that dispenses a calibrated quantity of a fluid into a receptacle having a plurality of spaced-apart rows of receiving wells. The calibrated quantity of fluid is determined based upon a dispensing time and a dispensing scale factor that accounts for the viscosity of the fluid to be dispensed. The automated dispensing device can be configured with independently controllable nozzles for selective delivery of fluid. The automated dispensing device is particularly suitable for dispensing a calibrated quantity of ammonium hydroxide into the receiving wells of each row of a microtiter plate for oligonucleotide cleavage.

Apparatus for drying solutions containing macromolecules

A gel electrophoresis apparatus and a cooling system therefor. The apparatus includes a front panel and a back panel. A gel slab is contained in a gel slab platform between the front and back panels. The gel slab platform extends upwardly to the front edge of an upper buffer reservoir and downwardly to a lower buffer reservoir. A conventional gel mold assembly is inserted into the apparatus and supported by the gel slab platform. A cooling unit is disposed below the lower buffer reservoir of the apparatus. A baffle plate is inserted between the front panel and a back panel of the apparatus. When the cooling unit is actuated, the baffle plate directs a cooling medium through the apparatus and between the front panel and the back panel to cool the gel slab. The apparatus also includes dampers which are pivotally mounted on the apparatus at the top of the baffle plate. The dampers are used to control the flow of the cooling medium through each baffle individually. The apparatus further includes clamps which are pivotally mounted on the sides of the apparatus, and are used to hold the gel mold in place in the gel slab platform during testing. The clamps are designed with a hinge so that they naturally fall away from the gel slab platform when not in use.

Gel electrophoresis apparatus

A gel casting system having a filling manifold and a gel casting clamp. The gel casting clamp is a U-shaped boot made of a flexible and resilient material and having a tapered channel disposed on its inner surface. The tapered channel secures a gel mold in the gel casting clamp. The gel casting clamp is disposed on top of the filling manifold, and an inlet in the bottom of the gel casting clamp mates with an outlet on the filling manifold to allow fluid to enter the gel mold from the filling manifold. The filling manifold includes two plates detachably connected to each other with a distribution system disposed between the plates. The filling manifold also includes an intake port through which fluid is supplied to the filling manifold from a supply means. In one embodiment, the supply means is a gradient former.

Gel casting system

An autoradiography cassette maintains a sample in close contact with a film and prevents extraneous light from exposing the film. The cassette includes a substantially flat base plate and two flexible magnetic sheets. A first flexible magnetic sheet is attached to the base plate by rivets. The rivets allow the first magnetic sheet to move relative to the base plate in a plane defined by the base plate. A second flexible magnetic sheet is positioned above the first magnetic sheet to magnetically couple with the first magnetic sheet. The rivets allow relative lateral movement between the base plate and the magnetic sheets to account for differences in the coefficients of thermal expansion for the base plate and the magnetically coupled flexible magnetic sheets.

Autoradiography cassette

An apparatus for filtering multiple biological samples using a filter membrane is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a well plate having at least one well adapted to contain the sample media. The apparatus further comprises a vacuum-clamping feature for placing the filter membrane in sealable contact with at least one well of the well plate. The apparatus further comprises a vacuum sampling feature for drawing the sample media contained in the at least one well into contact with the filter membrane. The apparatus further comprises a first vacuum chamber for providing vacuum to the vacuum sampling feature. The first vacuum chamber is an integral part of the apparatus. The apparatus further comprises a second vacuum chamber for providing vacuum to the vacuum clamping feature. The second vacuum chamber is also an integral part of the apparatus.

Self-contained vacuum clamped multi-sample media filtration apparatus

A gel electrophoresis/electro-blot transfer apparatus comprising a buffer tank having a upper and lower section adapted to maintain a buffer solution, a support frame for supporting a gel slab, a first member for securing the gel slab in a substantially vertical direction in the support frame, a support frame for supporting a filter paper, gel slab, and a blotter membrane, a second member for securing the filter paper, gel slab, and membrane in intimate contact with the support frame. Assembly of the buffer tank, support frame, and securing means or the buffer tank and electro-blot support frame forms an upper buffer solution reservoir and a lower buffer solution reservoir substantially isolated from each other. The upper buffer solution reservoir and the lower buffer solution reservoir are electrically connected so that electrophoresis or electro-blot transfer can be performed.
