A coating composition for use in a photographic element, the composition comprising an aqueous solution of: two or more surfactants; a hydrophilic binder; and optional matte particles; wherein one of the surfactants is represented by the following Formula (I):R&#x2014;CHCH&#x2014;(B)-A&#x2003;&#x2003;(I)where Ris F(CFCF)&#x2014; and n is 3 and 4 or 3, 4, and 5, and the fraction of all Rwith n=3 is at least 40%;B is a divalent linking group; y is 0 or 1; and A is an anionic group with a counterion or an amphoteric group. A photographic element containing the coating composition is also disclosed.

Antistatic compositions include a fluorochemical that is a reaction product of R &mdash;CH CH &mdash;SO H with an amine wherein R comprises 4 or more fully fluorinated carbon atoms. These antistatic compositions can be formulated in organic solvent-based conductive coating compositions, with or without hydrophobic binders, that can be used to form conductive layers in thermally developable materials including thermographic and photothermographic materials.

There is disclosed an oxidation-reduction imaging forming composition comprising an aqueous based dispersion of (i) nanoparticulate silver carboxylate particles having on the surface of the particles a surface modifier which is a phosphoric acid ester and (ii) an organic reducing agent. A process of preparing a radiation-sensitive silver halide emulsion is disclosed in which a polyalkylene oxide block copolymer surfactant is employed. Dispersion of the polyalkylene oxide block copolymer surfactant in the aqueous dispersing medium is increased by the inclusion of an auxiliary surfactant. The auxiliary surfactants are selected from among those that, in the form of an aqueous solution containing 10 percent by weight of the auxiliary surfactant based on total weight of the aqueous solution, is miscible in all proportions with at least one of water and the polyalkylene oxide block copolymer surfactant.

Processes of preparing radiation-sensitive silver halide emulsions

An aqueous dispersion comprising a dispersed polymer is disclosed, obtained by combining (i) the dispersed polymer (ii) a hydrated metal salt of a strong acid, and (iii) a polymeric surfactant comprising a hydrophobic component containing an aryl radical containing at least 7 carbon atoms and a hydrophilic block component containing at least six repeat units derived from water-soluble monomers, or a multifunctional block copolymeric surfactant derived from the sequential addition of propylene oxide or higher alkylene oxide units and subsequently ethylene oxide units to a polyamine moiety. It has been found that the addition of such polymeric surfactants in accordance with the invention can stabilize an aqueous polymeric dispersion or latex even when hydrated metal salts of strong acids, such as Al.sub.2 (SO.sub.4).sub.3.18H.sub.2 O, AlCl.sub.3.6H.sub.2 O, Al(NO.sub.3).sub.3.9H.sub.2 O, Zn(NO.sub.3).sub.2.6H.sub.2 O etc., are present.
