A custom-fitted protective sports equipment and a method of making the same can comprise, at a first location, obtaining head data for a customer's head comprising a length, a width, and at least one head contour. With at least one processor, generating a computerized three-dimensional (3D) headform matching the customer's head length, width, and head contour from the head data. The 3D headform can be compared to a safety standard. At a second location different from the first location, the custom-fitted protective sports equipment is formed, wherein the custom-fitted helmet satisfies the safety standard and comprises an inner surface comprising a topography that conforms to the length, width, and at least one contour of the customer's head.

System and method for forming protective sports equipment for a customer

A helmet may be worn on a head of a wearer having a shape and a contour. The helmet may have a plurality of layers coupled together including an energy management layer and an outer shell layer disposed over the energy management layer. The plurality of layers are integrally formed with one another, and the energy management layer is configured to absorb and dissipate energy received by the helmet during an impact by an external force. The outer shell layer is configured to disperse and dissipate impact energy from the external force. Each of the plurality of layers has a density and a geometry, and the density or geometry of at least one layer differs from the density or geometry of at least another layer.

A custom-fitted helmet and a method of making the same can comprise, at a first location, obtaining head data for a customer's head comprising a length, a width, and at least one head contour. With at least one processor, generating a computerized three-dimensional (3D) headform matching the customer's head length, width, and head contour from the head data. The 3D headform can be compared to a helmet safety standard. At a second location different from the first location, a custom-fitted helmet based on the 3D headform can be formed, wherein the custom-fitted helmet satisfies the safety standard and comprises an inner surface comprising a topography that conforms to the length, width, and at least one contour of the customer's head. The first location can be a home or a store. Obtaining the head data from photographic images of a deformable interface member disposed on the customer's head.

System and method for forming a protective helmet for a customer's head

A protective helmet to be worn by a player engaged in a sport comprises a flexible outer shell and a multi-layer liner assembly disposed within the outer shell. The multi-layer liner assembly includes an inner-layer, a middle-layer and an outer-layer, and permits relative rotational movement between said layers when the helmet is worn by the player and receives an impact. The inner-layer is made from a first material with a first density and is mechanically coupled to the outer-layer without adhesive. The outer-layer is made from a second material with a second density that is greater than the first density of the inner-layer. The middle-layer is made from a third material that has a third density that is greater than the first density. The outer-layer also has a thickness that is greater than a thickness of the inner-layer and varies between a front region of the outer-layer and a crown region of the outer-layer.

Multi-layer helmet and method for making the same

A chin strap assembly comprises a chin cup and a chin strap for mounting the chin cup to a helmet. The chin cup has a first side for contacting a user's chin and a second side opposite the first side, the second side including a first engaging structure. The chin strap has a second engaging structure for coupling the chin strap to the chin cup via the first engaging structure. The first engaging structure is offset on the chin cup and the second engaging structure is offset on the chin strap to provide various positioning options of the chin cup relative to the helmet.

Vehicle sensor systems include modular sensor kits having one or more pods (e.g., sensor roof pods) and/or one or more bumpers (e.g., sensor bumpers). The sensor roof pods are configured to couple to a vehicle. A sensor roof pod may be positioned atop a vehicle proximate a front of the vehicle, proximate a back of the vehicle, or at any position along a top side of the vehicle being coupled, for example, using a mounting shim or a tripod. The sensor roof pods can include sensors (e.g., LIDAR sensors, cameras, ultrasonic sensors, etc.), processing units, control systems (e.g., temperature and/or environmental control systems), and communication devices (e.g., networking and/or wireless devices).

A helmet includes a helmet body and a clip coupled to the helmet body, for retaining a helmet accessory such as a face cage. The clip comprises a first clip section partly defining an aperture into which a part of the helmet accessory can be received and a second clip section located opposite the first clip section. The second clip section has a first end and a second end, the first end partly defining the aperture into which the part of the helmet accessory can be received, and the second end being coupled to the helmet body. The second clip section further includes a ramped surface that can be depressed to provide access to or from the aperture by the part of the helmet accessory. Also disclosed is a clip for retaining a helmet accessory.

Virtual bumpers for autonomous vehicles improve effectiveness and safety as such vehicles are operated. One or more sensor systems having a Lidar sensor and a camera sensor determine proximity of objects around the vehicle and facilitate identification of the environment around the vehicle. The sensor systems are placed at various locations around the vehicle. The vehicle identifies an object and one or more properties of the identified object using the sensor systems. Based on the identified object and the properties of the object, a virtual bumper may be created for that object. For example, if the object is identified as another vehicle moving with a certain velocity, the vehicle may determine a minimum space to avoid the other vehicle, either by changing direction or reducing the velocity of the vehicle, with the minimum space constituting a virtual bumper.

Obstacle detection systems

A protective helmet having a protective shell, a low friction layer, and a comfort liner is disclosed. The protective shell includes an energy absorbing material and an inner surface. The low friction layer is coupled to the inner surface of the protective shell. The low friction layer may be plastic having a thickness of less than approximately 3 mm. The comfort liner is removably coupled to the low friction layer opposite the protective shell, and includes a low friction material, such as brushed nylon, adjacent the low friction liner. The comfort liner may be removably coupled protective shell with either clips that removably couple to receivers embedded in the brow of the helmet, with elastically deformable couplings that extend from the comfort liner to the protective shell, or both.

The comfort liner is removably coupled to the low friction layer opposite the protective shell, and includes a low friction material, such as brushed nylon, adjacent the low friction liner. The comfort liner may be removeably coupled protective shell with either clips that removably couple to receivers embedded in the brow of the helmet, with elastically deformable couplings that extend from the comfort liner to the protective shell, or both.
