Apparatus are disclosed for intraosseous fluid infusion or aspiration of bone marrow of a subject. Particular apparatus include a bone portal (bone-penetrating member) comprising axially-aligned distal and proximal sections. The proximal section extends in a distal direction from a proximate end of the bone portal and the distal section extends in the distal direction from the proximate section to the distal end of the bone portal. The bone portal also comprises a fluid-transport bore extending between a proximal opening in the proximal section and a distal opening in the distal section. At least a portion of the distal section has a cross-sectional area, perimeter, diameter and/or dimension greater than that of the proximal section.

Bone-penetrating member for intraosseous infusion and aspiration devices

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for locating a site of intraosseous infusion and for relieving strain and stress on the infusion site. The template patch uses a key anatomical feature of the bone as a reference point to a target zone for infusion that is located a predetermined distance away from the feature. The template patch has a tube clamp and a covering that protect the infusion site from external forces.

Patch for locating a target zone for penetration

This invention relates to an apparatus and method for infusing fluids to and aspirating tissue from an intraosseous site. The apparatus is comprised of an infusion tube coupled to a housing assembly with a release mechanism that removes the force exerted on the infusion tube once it has penetrated the bone a predetermined depth. As the housing assembly is withdrawn, the infusion tube remains in the bone. The ball release mechanism and other aspects of the apparatus can be modified to yield different penetration depths.

Method and apparatus for the intraosseous introduction of a device such as an infusion tube

An apparatus comprising three main assemblies, an applicator, an infusion/aspiration tube with a subcutaneous bone penetration means, and a strain relief protector. The apparatus enables a user in field or emergency environments to quickly, safely and reliably place an infusion/aspiration device in a patient's bone, regardless of the thickness of skin and tissue over the bone, and to ensure it will remain in place throughout other emergency procedures and severe environmental conditions. The infusion/aspiration apparatus incorporates a bone stop to ensure precise location of the bone penetration means at the intended marrow depth in the patient's bone. A method of intraosseous infusion or aspiration has a first step of locating the appropriate site on a suitable bone, a second step of inserting a bone penetration means device through the skin using an applicator, a third step of placing a fluid delivery port at a precise depth by mechanical location means which use the surface of the target bone as a reference point, a fourth step of removing the applicator, an optional fifth step of installing a strain relief protector, and a final step of attaching a source of fluids for infusion or of suction for aspiration.

Apparatus for intraosseous infusion or aspiration

An intraosseous infusion device includes a base and an upper frame mounted to the base. An elongated needle is fixed to the upper frame. A fitting is provided for receiving liquid to be delivered to a patient's bone marrow and for supplying the liquid to a bore in the needle. The base includes a cam surface and the upper frame includes a cam follower. The cam surface is configured to cause the upper frame to rotate relative to the base as the needle moves longitudinally between a retracted position within the base and an extended position below the base.
