A stent delivery device includes a sheath covering a compressed stent and a housing. The housing includes a mover reel coupled to an actuator that rotates the mover reel in a winding direction when actuated. A sheath pull wire is coupled to the mover reel and the sheath. Rotation of the mover reel in the winding direction winds the sheath pull wire on the mover reel and moves the sheath in a proximal direction. A pre-mover is provided separate from the actuator, the pre-mover including an arm having a proximal end engaged with the mover reel to prevent rotation in the locked position. The pre-mover includes a pre-mover actuator coupled to the arm and having a portion projecting outside of the housing, wherein movement of the pre-mover actuator disengages the arm from the mover reel and rotates the mover reel a predetermined amount in the winding direction.

A stent delivery system that includes an inner member and an outer retractable sheath is operated by a handle that permits retraction of the sheath at more than one speed. The sheath may be retracted in small, incremental steps or in a single, more rapid stroke. The stent delivery system may include releasably locking of the inner member and outer sheath in a fixed position and also may facilitate admission of liquid into the device.

The present invention relates to a method and device for releasing into the body from a delivery system a medical prosthesis mounted on the delivery system and held by a constraint in a constrained delivery disposition. The device comprises a first hub for the delivery system, a second hub for an elongate element to connect the device to the prosthesis constraint, a track for the second hub to advance along, from a starting point corresponding to constraint of the prosthesis, to a finishing point corresponding to separation of the prosthesis and constraint, ratchet means to advance the second hub progressively, from the starting point to the finishing point, in a plurality of actuation strokes, and a full stroke actuator to advance the second hub all the way from an intermediate point on the track to a finishing point in one single stroke of the actuator, the intermediate point being selectable by the user within a portion of the track which extends over at least half the length of the track.
