Ink jet printing on a non-absorbent substrate involves a wet primer having a primer viscosity. The wet primer is applied on the non-absorbent substrate. An ink jet ink having an ink jet viscosity lower than the primer viscosity is jetted over the wet primer while the primer is still wet. The wet primer and ink are simultaneously cured on the substrate.

Lithographic printing method using a single fluid ink

A single fluid lithographic printing ink composition includes a hydrophobic phase and a hydrophilic fluid phase. The hydrophilic fluid phase contains water or a liquid polyol or both. The hydrophobic phase contains a hydrogen bonding vinyl polymer that can hydrogen bond with the hydrophilic fluid phase. The vinyl polymers are preferably branched, but remain soluble in the hydrophobic phase. The invention provides stable inks that can be used as single fluid inks with excellent fountain stability and resistance to toning.

The polyol phase includes a liquid polyethylene glycol material. The invention further provides a method of making a single fluid ink composition and a process of printing using the single fluid ink of the invention with improved resistance to toning.
