A technique for generating a mapping relating values of a scan parameter of an ocular imaging apparatus that are indicative of scan locations in an eye at which the apparatus acquires digital images of imaged regions of the eye, to respective values of a conversion factor for calculating a distance between designated ocular features in the imaged regions, by: simulating light ray propagation to relate each value of the scan parameter in a sequence of scan parameter values to a corresponding location in a model eye; calculating, for each scan parameter value, a distance between the corresponding location in the model eye and a location in the model eye corresponding to an adjacent value in the sequence; and using the calculated distances to generate a respective value of the conversion factor for each scan parameter value.

Ocular image data processing

A method of processing functional OCT image data, acquired by an OCT scanner scanning a retina that is being repeatedly stimulated by a light stimulus, to obtain a response of the retina to the light stimulus, comprising: receiving OCT image data generated by the OCT scanner repeatedly scanning the retina over a time period, and a sequence of stimulus indicators each indicative of a stimulation of the retina by the light stimulus in a respective time interval of a sequence of time intervals spanning the time period; calculating, for each stimulus indicator, a product of the stimulus indicator and a respective windowed portion of the sequence of B-scans comprising a B-scan based on a portion of the OCT image data generated while the retina was being stimulated in accordance with the stimulus indicator; and combining the calculated products to generate the indication of the response.

A method of determining a geometrical measurement of a retina of an eye, comprising obtaining a two dimensional representation of at least a portion of the retina of the eye (), deriving a geometrical remapping which converts the two dimensional representation of the retinal portion to a three dimensional representation of the retinal portion (), using one or more coordinates of the two dimensional representation of the retinal portion to define the geometrical measurement to be taken of the retina on the two dimensional representation (), using the geometrical remapping to convert the or each coordinate of the two dimensional representation of the retinal portion to an equivalent coordinate of the three dimensional representation of the retinal portion (), and using the or each equivalent coordinate of the three dimensional representation of the retinal portion to determine the geometrical measurement of the retina of the eye ().

Imaging of the eye

An apparatus for rendering optical coherence tomography, OCT, retinal image data, acquired by an OCT scanner scanning a retina of an eye over a range of scan locations, wherein each scan location is associated with a respective coordinate in a first coordinate system, and each pixel of the rendered OCT retinal image data is associated with a respective coordinate in a second coordinate system different from the first coordinate system. The apparatus comprises a communication module arranged to receive the OCT retinal image data, and a coordinate-determining module arranged to determine values of coordinates in the second coordinate system of pixels in the received OCT retinal image using a transformation from coordinates in the first to second coordinate system. The apparatus further comprises an interpolation module arranged to interpolate between values of pixels at the determined values to calculate values of the pixels of the rendered OCT retinal image data.

A method of determining a measurement of at least one cell type in an eye, comprising (i) obtaining a map of the cell type in the eye, (ii) obtaining a representation of the retina of the eye, (iii) matching the eye cell type map to the representation of the retina of the eye, (iv) defining a region of interest on the representation of the retina of the eye, (v) calculating a size of the region of interest on the representation of the retina of the eye, (vi) using the matched eye cell type map and the size of the region of interest to determine a measure of the cell type in the region of interest of the retina of the eye.
