The present disclosure describes a network device that is capable of coordinating the control of light emitters. For example, the network device may receive data indicating conditions for activating the light emitters. The network device may then receive sensor data generated by various sensors, such as motion sensors, light sensors, or a timer. Using the sensor data, the network device may determine that the conditions are satisfied and, in response, cause the light emitters to activate. To activate first light emitters, the network device may transmit a signal to an electronic device that causes the first light emitters to activate. The first light emitters may be powered by the electronic device. Additionally, to activate second light emitters, the network device may transmit signals to the second light emitters that include commands to activate.

A power management system for a lighting circuit may include a grid shifting controller that includes a processor and a connection to an external power source. The power management system may also include a communication interface associated with the grid shifting controller. The grid shifting controller may be configured to provide control information to a processor of at least one grid shifting electrical fixture over the communication interface, the control information being configured to direct the at least one grid shifting electrical fixture on the use of power from the external power source and an energy storage device associated with the at least one grid shifting electrical fixture.

A power change detection apparatus may also be configured through the user input method to operate different groups of wireless lighting modules such that lighting zones may be created. Multiple lighting zone allow a user to configure lighting provided by the wireless power outage lighting system based on their preference.

This application is directed to techniques and processes for notifying a user about power levels of electronic devices. For example, a first electronic device may receive data representing the power level of a second electronic device. The first electronic device may then determine that the power level is below a threshold power level. After the determination, the first electronic device may detect a user and/or a client device located within a threshold distance to the first electronic device and/or the second electronic device. The first electronic device may then send data to the second electronic device, wherein the data includes a command to emit light according to a pattern indicating that the power level is below the threshold power level. Additionally, the first electronic device may send a message to the client device, where the message indicates that the power level is below the threshold power level.

Aspects of the present invention further include a lighting system comprising a lighting source, a connector in electrical communication with the lighting source and an external power source, an energy storage device, an input device, and a controller. The controller may be configured to identify the presence of a load indicator signal received via the input device, determine whether the load indicator signal indicates a load-reducing state, and when the load indicator signal indicates the load-reducing state, discharge the energy storage device to maintain an intensity of the lighting source.
