A quick connect assembly having a female fitting attached to an end of a first fluid coupling and exhibiting an interior passage defined by a plurality of linearly extending and circumferentially spaced fingers. Undersides of said fingers collectively define a concentric concave profile an inwardly recessed distance from a connecting end. A male fitting attaches to an end of a second fluid coupling and includes an annular projection at an intermediate location generally matching the concave profile. Upon inserting the male fitting, the female fingers outwardly deflect, following which they inwardly retract concurrent with the projection seating within the interior concave profile. A covering cap is supported upon the male fitting and, upon displacing over projecting ends of the fingers, prevents inadvertent disengagement of the fittings.

Quick connect assembly including for use in pressurized fluid applications and incorporating auto shut-off feature

A quick connect assembly having a female terminal exhibiting an interior passage communicating with a connecting end. The passage is defined by inwardly facing surfaces associated with a plurality of linearly extending and peripherally arrayed beams, the passage exhibiting an enlarged profile an inwardly recessed distance from the connecting end. A male terminal includes a projecting portion generally matching the enlarged profile. The male terminal is inserted into the female terminal, causing the beams to outwardly deflect, following which the beams inwardly retract concurrent with the projecting portion seating within the inner profile. A linearly displaceable and sleeve shaped covering cap is spring supported upon the male terminal and displaceable between a first anti-biased position permitting outward deflection of the beams and a second biased position seating over projecting ends of the beams to prevent inadvertent disengagement of the terminals.

Quick connect with male and female terminals

An adjustment assembly in a motion transmitting remote control wherein the overall length of the conduit is adjusted to accommodate the installed post. Male () and female () telescoping members are biased into one another to shorten the overall length of the conduit. A spring () is retained in position on the male member () by a collar () until fullyinserted into the female member () where-upon the locking member () which interlocks the telescoping members presents an abutment to engage the collar () as the telescoping members (and) are telescoped into one another.

Multi-mode shifter assembly joint

A park-lock follower (,) for a shifter assembly (,) is provided which coacts with a shifter (,) pawl to lock and unlock a key in an ignition switch (,). The pawl (,) is disposed within a gate (,) having a plurality of stepped regions (,) that is supported by a base (,). The follower (,) is attached to one end (,) of a cable assembly (,) and is supported by the base (,) adjacent to a park stepped region (,) for rectilinear movement along an axis (A). Park-lock shifter cable

A motion transmitting assembly (10) for transmitting motion in a curved path by a core element (12) is movably supported in a conduit (14) which is, in turn, supported by a ferrule (16). A slotted swivel tube (24) is supported by the ferrule (16) and a terminal (24) is slidably disposed in the swivel tube (24). The assembly is characterized by the terminal (28) having a cross pin bore (30) and a cross pin (32) disposed in the cross pin bore (30), the cross pin (32) having a hole (34) extending transversely or diametrically therethrough with the core element (12) extending through the hole (34) to retain the cross pin (32) in the bore (30). The cross pin (32) extends through the cross pin bore (30) and out of each of the slots (26). A crimped section (36) of the terminal (28) is deformed into gripping engagement with the core element (12) to retain the terminal (28) to the core element (12).

Method of fabrication of a slotted swivel tube

A cable operated interlock system between the gear selector lever (12) of an automatic transmission and the brake pedal (42) restrains the gear selector lever (12) in the Park position until the brake pedal (42) is first depressed. The interlock system includes a shifter cable (68) having one end (70) connected to an L-shaped pedal actuator (62) and another end (72) connected to an inhibitor pin (74) adjacent the gear selector lever (12). A compressible tip (82) is telescopically received over the end of the pedal actuator (62), with a spring (84) trapped therebetween for yielding when the brake pedal (42) returns to its rest position in the event the gear selector lever (12) resides in one of its drive positions. The interlock system may also include an ignition cable (90) extending between an ignition switch (52) of the automobile and the pedal actuator (62). The ignition cable (90) prevents displacement of the pedal actuator (62) and the attached shifter cable (68) unless the ignition switch (52) is in a Run position. Conversely, the ignition cable (90) will not permit the ignition switch (52) to return to its Off position until the gear selector lever (12) has been placed in its Park position.

Cable operated brake/ignition/transmission interlock

A motion transmitting remote control assembly (10) for transmitting motion in a curved path comprising a flexible core element (12) having first and second ends and movably supported by a conduit (14) having a first end, a terminal (16) attached to the first end of the core element (12), an end fitting (18) attached to the first end of the conduit (14) and defining a guideway (20) for guiding the terminal (16) during to and from movement of an extended length of the core element (12) in the guideway (20), and a collar (22) in sliding relationship with the guideway (20). The core element (12) has a core cross section and the guideway (20) has a guideway cross section. The guideway cross section is larger than the core cross section. The collar (22) slides between the terminal (16) and the end fitting (18) occupying a first portion of a difference in the core cross section and the guideway cross section to prevent buckling of the extended length of the core element (12) extending from the end fitting (18) to the terminal (16).

A motion transmitting remote control assembly (10) of the type for transmitting motion in a curved path by a flexible motion transmitting core element and characterized by a rod (44) secured to the outer end of the first core element section (12) for liming sliding movement of the first core element section (12) into the first conduit (16) at a retracted stop position with a female member (28) being in overlapping relationship with the bore (32) at the open end (36) to prevent the female member (28) from completely exiting the bore (32) at the refracted stop position. The method of assembly includes sliding the first core element section (12) into the first conduit (16) to move the female member (28) into the bore (32) and engage the bottom (34) to extend the outer end of the first core element section (12) from the outer end (40) of the first conduit (16) to establish an extended stop position, securing a rod (44) to the outer end of the first core element section (12) to establish a retracted stop position to limit movement (x) of the first core element section (12) to prevent the female member (28) from completely exiting the bore (32) so that the female member (28) remains in overlapping relationship with the bore (32) in the retracted stop position. More specifically, the first core element section (12) is inserted into the rod (44) while inserting the end (46) of the rod (44) into a swivel tube (38) while maintaining the female member (28) bottomed out in the extended portion, and securing the rod (44) to the first core element section (12) at a position exteriorly of the swivel tube (38) whereby the rod (44) is prevented from completely exiting the swivel tube (38) into the extended position.

Mid-length adjustment and method of assembly

An adjustment assembly in a motion transmitting remote control wherein the overall length of the conduit is adjusted to accommodate the installed post. Male (18) and female (20) telescoping members are biased into one another to shorten the overall length of the conduit. A spring (22) is retained in position on the male member (18) by a collar (26) until fully 11 inserted into the female member (20) whereupon the locking member (19) which interlocks the telescoping members presents an abutment to engage the collar (26) as the telescoping members (18 and 20) are telescoped into one another.

A motion transmitting remote control assembly (10) of the type for transmitting motion in a curved path and comprising first and second core element sections (12 and 14) movably supported in first and second conduits (16 and 20). Female (24) and male (26) members define the inner ends of the core element sections (12 and 14) and the assembly (10) is characterized by a U-shaped clip (28) manually insertable into and manually removable from slots (32) in the female member (24) to engage a male groove (30) in the male member (26) to mechanically lock the core element sections (12 and 14) together while moving axially.

Serviceable clip core coupling

A motion-transmitting remote-control assembly (10) of the type for transmitting motion along a curved path by a flexible motion-transmitting core element (12) with a conduit (14) slidably supporting the core element (12). A terminal (30) has a bore (32) extending therethrough and defines oppositely facing first (32a) and second (32b) openings with the second opening (32b) disposed for connecting the core element (12) to a control member (24). An adjustment interconnects the terminal (30) and the core element (12) for adjusting the position of the terminal (30) axially along the core element (12) and includes a lock button (36) movable between an unlocked position extending from the assembly and a locked position within the assembly for locking the axial position of the terminal (30) relative to the core element (12). The assembly is characterized by a collar (58) locked in a shipping position by the extended lock button (36) for preventing the insertion of a control member (28) into the first opening (32a) and movable to an installed position for maintaining the lock button (36) in the locked position. Therefore, the collar (58) prevents an installer from inadvertently inserting a control member (28) into the first opening (32a) during installation and thereafter insures that the lock button (36) is fully in the locked position when moved to the installed position. The collar (58) is slidably movable along the terminal (30) for blocking entry into the first opening (32a) in the shipping position and for covering the lock button (36) in the fully installed position.

Security collar for adjustable core element terminal

A slide-n-snap in support fitting 14 for motion transmitting remote control assembly of the type for transmitting motion by a flexible motion transmitting core element 12. The fitting 14 presents a pair of spaced inner 24 and outer 26 flanges for receiving therebetween the edge of a slot 18 in the support structure 16 and a pair of locking arms 22 extend in a cantilevered fashion a direction transverse to the guideways 20 defined by the flanges 24 and 26 for flexing about an axis parallel to the guideways 20 and remaining inflexible in the direction parallel to the guideways 20 for extending over the support structure 16 adjacent the slot 18 therein while flexing about the axis parallel to the guideways 20 during insertion of the fitting 14 into the slot 18 and snapping back into mechanical interlocking engagement with the end of a ramp 32 projecting from the support structure 16 in the locked position so that forces urging the fitting 14 out of the locked position in the slot 18 will react with the arms 22 in the inflexible direction, thereby providing relatively low force to insert the fitting 14 into the slot 18 while providing a relatively high retention force to prevent the fitting 14 from being removed from the slot 18.

Low force slide-n-snap high force retention

A connection for locking first (18) and second (20) core element sections together in a locked position mechanically prevented from moving relative to one another axially in either direction solely in response to axial forces transmitted along the core element sections (18,20) without buckling either of the core element sections (18,20). A male member (26) presents a male groove (30) and a female member (24) presents a female groove (32) and a lock ring (28) disposed in one of the grooves (30,32) with the lock ring (28) radially overlapping the male (30) and female (32) grooves in the locked position. A mechanical advantage comprising a female taper (34) of gentle slope forces the radial movement of the lock ring (28) as core element sections (18 and 20) are moved together without buckling the wire elements (22) of the core element sections (18, 20).
