Methods for making antimicrobial resins and for forming coatings comprising antimicrobial resins on substrate surfaces are disclosed. The methods involve providing a mixture comprising about 15 weight % to about 80 weight % of a hydrophilic acrylic oligomer, about 10 weight % to about 80 weight % of a multifunctional acrylic monomer, about 5 weight % to about 40 weight % of an adhesion-promoting acrylic or vinyl monomer, and about 0.1 weight % to about 15 weight % of a metal salt; and exposing the mixture to a radiation source to cure at least a portion of the mixture, thereby forming an antimicrobial resin.

Antimicrobial resin compositions

A medical device, such as a vascular access device, is disclosed for providing access to a medical fluid flow path for the introduction or withdrawal of medical fluids to and from the flow path. The access device includes an indicator for providing a visual indication when the access device has been exposed to an antiseptic agent.

Methods for making antimicrobial resins

Films containing microlayer structures are provided. In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides an autoclavable film containing a first microlayer of a heat resistant polymer and a second microlayer of a flexible polymer attached to the first microlayer. Each of the first microlayer and the second microlayer has a thickness ranging between about 0.01 microns and about 10 microns.

Films containing microlayer structures

Films containing microlayer structures are provided. In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides a film containing a first microlayer of a heat resistant polymer and a second microlayer of a barrier polymer having a heat distortion temperature ranging between about 50&#xb0; C. and about 120&#xb0; C. attached to the first microlayer. Each of the first microlayer and the second microlayer has a thickness ranging from about 0.01 microns to about 10 microns.

Barrier films containing microlayer structures

Multiple layer structures comprising one or more poly(vinylidene chloride) layers and containers made from the multiple layer structures are provided. In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides a multiple layer structure comprising one or more PVDC layers comprising a component selected from the group consisting of a poly(vinylidene chloride), a poly(vinylidene chloride) copolymer, and combinations thereof. The multiple layer structure further comprises one or more tie layers attached to the PVDC layer. The tie layer comprises a component selected from the group consisting of (a) polyether polyester copolymers, (b) polyurethanes having a melting temperature above about 121&#xb0; C., (c) a blend comprising a polyamide and an ethylene copolymer containing an amine reactive functional group, and combinations thereof.
