A sealing device includes a flexible seal (), a source of gas (), a gas inlet () into the seal, and a gas outlet () from the sealwhereby gas flows through the seal. A cryogenic source cools the seal and the gas from the cryogen helps seal the seal to the roll and to keep the seal flexible as the gas flows.

Seal for use in cryogenic applications

An adjustable descaling device for a rolling mill () for rolling a metal product () on a rolling line comprises one or more descalers (), at least one scale detection sensor (); and a processor (). The sensor detects a scale pattern on a surface of the metal product () after descaling of the product. The processor adjusts the descaling impact pattern according to the detected scale pattern provided by the sensor.

Adjustable descaler

A feed roll and stripper assembly for a rolling mill includes at least one feed roll at each of an entry side and an exit side of a pair of work rolls and a stripper at each of the entry and exit side of the pair of work rolls. Each stripper has a stripper tip. At least one of the strippers or feed rolls are adapted to have an adjustable vertical separation from one of the work rolls, according to the direction of movement of material through the work rolls. The vertical separation of the at least one stripper or feed roll from the one work roll on the entry or exit side is different from the vertical separation of the other at least one stripper or the feed roll on the other of the entry or exit side. Each stripper tip is separated from one of the work rolls.

Feed roll assembly

An apparatus for controlled cooling and a control method related to controlled cooling of hot plate or strip shaped metal. The apparatus comprises a header fitted with a first valve which allows air to escape from the header and prevents cooling fluid escaping from the header when being filled and prevents air from getting back into the header. During operation due to the apparatus an improved operation even at low flow rates is possible.

A fully hydraulic edging system suitable for use in wide plate mills is disclosed. The need for electro-mechanical screws to effect large movements of the side rollers is avoided by employing a pull-back hydraulic cylinder for this purpose. The main hydraulic cylinders are switched to a non-operational mode during large movements thus avoiding the need for large volumes of hydraulic fluid to be transferred under high pressure.

A method, and an apparatus, for operating a hydraulic shearing machine. For cutting a shearing-movement of at least one shear blade which is curved, starting from a starting-position under application of an overall actuating-force and for resetting of the shear blades which were moved for cutting to their starting-position after accomplishment of the shearing-movement, a reset-movement under application of an overall reset-force. The shearing-movement and the reset-movement are accomplished by a hydraulic actuating-mechanism comprising hydraulic cylinders, wherein the overall actuating-force and the overall reset-force being applied to the moved shear blades by at least one hydraulic cylinder of the actuating-mechanism. The magnitude of the overall actuating-force is adjustable by switching one or several hydraulic cylinders of the actuating-mechanism in and out of operation-mode. The method proposes that the positions of the curved shear blade are controlled by a control system by regulating the flow of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic cylinders according to setpoints for a shear blade position versus time function and the overall actuating-force and overall reset-force requirements.

Multiple actuating-force shearing machine

The invention provides apparatus and methods for coiling and uncoiling a metal strip in which the angular position of a coiler is measured and an actuator is provided for a moveable roll, the moveable roll position being varied as a function of the coiler. The present invention aims to avoid tension variations in the metal which cause width and thickness variations in rolling operations for instance.
