A computer implemented method that includes displaying information about an order including a first product and a second product, where the first product originates at a first retailer and the second product originates at a second retailer. A first user input corresponding to an initiation of production of the first product is received from the first user device and a first visual status is displayed at the second user device. A second user input corresponding to a completion of the production of the first product is received from the first user devices and the first visual status is updated to a second visual status reflecting the completion. A third user input corresponding to an assembly of the order is received from the second user device and a notification that the order including the first product and the second product is complete is displayed at a third user device.

An apparatus includes a slider configured for heat-assisted magnetic recording, the slider comprising an air bearing surface (ABS), a writer, a reader, and a plurality of electrical bond-pads. The apparatus also includes a first component situated at the ABS of the slider proximate the reader and operatively coupled to a first pair of the plurality of electrical bond-pads, the first component being a thermocouple configured to sense for a thermal aspect of a magnetic recording medium surface. According to aspects of the invention, the slider is configured to share at least one bond-pad by operatively coupling a second pair of the plurality of electrical bond-pads to a second component, and the slider is configured to selectively utilize the thermocouple and the second component.

An apparatus comprises a thermal sensor configured to interact with a magnetic recording disk. A head-disk interface is defined between the thermal sensor and the disk. A power supply is coupled to the thermal sensor and configured to supply a bias power to the thermal sensor between a low power and a high power. A processor is coupled to the thermal sensor and configured to determine a slope of a resistance response of the thermal sensor. The processor is further configured to detect a change in the slope relative to a baseline slope. The slope change indicates increased heat sinking between the thermal sensor and the disk due to the presence of contaminant buildup at the head-disk interface.

A method of removing contamination from a magnetic recording head during contact detection, including the steps of setting a heat actuator at a first power level, dwelling at the first power level for a specified length of time, removing contamination from the head during the specified dwell time, oscillating the heat actuator from the first power level to a second level that is lower than the first level while detecting periodic contact between the head and an adjacent disk, calculating the amplitude of the detected periodic contact, and correlating the calculated amplitude to a clearance distance between the head and the disk.

A method of controlling clearance in a disk drive, including the steps of: mounting a recording head having at least one heating element at a first distance from a top surface of the disk; measuring a first passive fly height between the top surface of the disk and a bottom surface of the head; applying a first quantity of energy to the heating element(s) to permanently deform the head and change the distance between the top surface of the disk and a bottom surface of the head to a second passive fly height that is less than the first passive fly height; and applying a second quantity of energy to the heating element(s) to temporarily deform the head and change the distance between the top surface of the disk and a bottom surface of the head to an operational clearance distance that is less than the second passive fly height.

A light source is configured to produce light, a waveguide is optically coupled to the light source and configured to direct the light to an intended focus location, and a slider is configured to use the light as an energy source for heating a region of a magnetic recording medium. A thermal sensor is situated on the slider at a location outside of a light path that includes the intended focus location. The thermal sensor is configured for sensing a short time constant change in temperature resulting from light source heating of the thermal sensor, wherein the sensed change in thermal sensor temperature is representative of optical intensity of the light delivered to the intended focus location.

A head transducer, configured to interact with a magnetic recording medium, includes a first sensor having a temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and configured to produce a first sensor signal, and a second sensor having a TCR and configured to produce a second sensor signal. One of the first and second sensors is situated at or near a close point of the head transducer in relation to the magnetic recording medium, and the other of the first and second sensors spaced away from the close point. Circuitry is configured to combine the first and second sensor signals and produce a combined sensor signal indicative of one or both of a change in head-medium spacing and head-medium contact. Each of the sensors may have a TCR with the same sign (positive or negative) or each sensor may have a TCR with a different sign.

An apparatus is arranged to detect contact between an air bearing surface of a transducer and a medium using a modulated thermal sensor signal. A laser source produces modulated laser light. A thermal sensor is disposed at or near the air bearing surface and is subject to cyclic heating by the modulated laser light. The thermal sensor is configured to produce the modulated sensor signal in response to the cyclic heating.
