A wear-indicating system includes a wear-indicating mark applied to a portion of a surface edge margin of an internal component of a turbine. The wear-indicating mark is visually discernible from the surface edge margin through boroscopic inspection. An inner extent of the wear-indicating mark is spaced a pre-selected distance from the surface edge.

An apparatus for routing fluid in a steam turbine is provided. The steam turbine includes a stage comprising a plurality of buckets secured to a rotor. The rotor is configured to rotate in response to a first volume of fluid flowing from an inlet passageway past the plurality of buckets. The apparatus includes a member having a fluid passageway extending therethrough. The fluid passageway includes a first end in fluid communication with a discharge side of the stage of the steam turbine. A second volume of fluid comprising a portion of the first volume of fluid is received into the fluid passageway at the discharge side of the stage and is discharged out of an outlet of the fluid passageway. The outlet is in fluid communication with a region between an upstream side of the stage and a sealing member disposed against the rotor. The region receives a third volume of leakage fluid from the upstream side of the stage. The second volume of fluid discharged out of the outlet both reduces the third volume of leakage fluid entering the region and increases the first volume of fluid flowing past the plurality of buckets to increase an amount of torque of the rotor.

A method for aligning an inner shell of a turbine assembly with an outer shell of the turbine assembly along a transverse centerline of the turbine assembly perpendicular to an axial centerline of the turbine assembly includes positioning a first gib key assembly with respect to the transverse centerline. The first gib key assembly is connected to a first end surface of the inner shell to form a first groove within the first gib key assembly. A projection formed on a first end of the outer shell mateably engages the first groove formed within the first gib key assembly to align the inner shell with the outer shell along the transverse centerline.

Method and assembly for aligning a turbine

A nozzle box includes a torus, bridge ring and nozzle ring portions wherein steam flowing generally circumferentially in the torus portion is redirected for flow generally axially by the bridge ring portion. The steam exiting the bridge ring portion flows into nozzles formed by adjacent partitions of the nozzle ring portion. Bridges in the bridge ring portion are tangentially leaned to exactly match the angle of inclination of the leading edges of the axially adjacent partitions at like circumferential locations. For strength purposes, there are two bridges for each partition. Every other bridge axially registers with the leading edge of the axially downstream partition matching its angle while remaining bridges are equally spaced between the aligned bridges. In this manner, the steam flow is straightened by the bridges to match the angle of the leading edge of the nozzle partitions with consequent reduction of passage area loss.

An exhaust hood for a turbine includes a shell casing, an external support structure, conical corner plates, and a butterfly plate. The shell casing includes an inner surface and an outer surface. The external support structure is coupled to the shell casing outer surface, and provides structural support to said shell casing. The butterfly plate is coupled to the shell casing inner surface for channeling flow into the exhaust hood and subsequently into the condenser. The butterfly plate has a substantially elliptically-shaped cross-sectional profile that facilitates reducing flow separation losses of steam flowing therethrough into the exhaust hood.

A nozzle box includes first and second nozzle box halves which are bolted together. Each nozzle box half includes a nozzle ring segment that carries nozzles along its entire 180&deg; arc, so that when the nozzle box halves are joined together a nozzle box is formed with no discontinuities of nozzles around its 360&deg; circumference. The nozzles carried on each nozzle ring segment communicate with inlet ports, and associated passages which are perpendicular to the nozzle box exit plane.

A turbine shell assembly includes radially inner and outer shell components; axial alignment fits on the inner and outer shell components, each alignment fit comprising a male fit component on one of the inner and outer shell components and a female fit component on the other of the inner and outer shell components, the female fit component comprising a pair of flanges forming a U-shaped channel with opposed faces, and the male fit component comprising a projection received within the U-shaped channel; and a pair of axial alignment keys, each key having a mounting flange for securement along an outer edge of a respective one of the pair of flanges and an alignment flange engaged along a respective one of the opposed faces.
