Disclosed embodiments provide an integrated access control system. The integrated access control system includes both credential reader functionality and door controller functionality in the same package. In embodiments, the circuitry is miniaturized to fit within a standard 'single gang' box such as those used for a standard light switch or receptacle. In this way, the integrated access control system of disclosed embodiments installs easily and unobtrusively in standard sized openings. To operate in a confined area such as a single gang box enclosure, a variety of thermal management and power management techniques are employed to provide reliable operation.

An apparatus including a central access control system and an access reader. The access reader is structured to receive an access credential from the central access control system, and includes a first connector connected with a second connector with the second connector connected to a cable, and with the cable in electronic communication with the central access control system. Connection of the first connector and the second connector places the access reader in electronic communication with the central access control system.

Disclosed embodiments provide techniques for entry access synchronization. A lock interface module is installed at a premises and is in communication with one or more electronic locks. The lock interface module is in electronic communication with an access management system. Changes in access permissions made from the access management system are quickly propagated to the electronic locks by the lock interface module.

Embodiments of the present invention provide an improved access control unit with an asymmetric transmission pattern. A shielded backplate reduces the interior transmission pattern. The secure side transmission pattern is much smaller than the unsecure side transmission pattern, such that a credential located within the secure side area of a building is not likely to trigger the access control unit, thus reducing the risk of an unauthorized access.

Systems and methods for emulating credentials are disclosed. In some cases, the systems include an access credential reader and an access credential writer. The access credential reader is communicably coupled to the access credential writer. The access credential reader is operable to receive information from an access credential, and to transfer at least a portion of the information to the access credential writer.
